Spanish FA didn't know anything about the contract between Real Madrid and Julen Lopetegui. Spanish FA heard 5 minutes before the announcement. For this reason they fired Julen Lopetegui.

Pretty stupid because that is simply what happen when a big club make to some good coach (who is not exactly their first choice) the offer of his life and is totally unexpected... Perez talked first to Mendes, then to Lopetegui who said yes at the first call and then left everything in the hands of Mendes while calling his employer short before Perez make his announcement (who he is both unwilling and unable to delay)

Let's say there's a player on a yellow card and does a foul which the referee does not see. If the VAR team think the foul deserves a straight red card, then they inform the referee and he would decide what to do. If the VAR team think the foul deserves a second yellow card (and hence the player should be sent off), they do NOT inform the referee. Sounds like a lot of power (and opportunity for corruption) in the hands of the VAR team to me.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not really... That imply who VAR has a lot less power than referees and who yellow cards are totally off their jurisdiction in any case (as is in Bundesliga or Serie A right now)

That's not how I see it.

Take a hypothetical scenario where the VAR officials were bought and the referee misses a foul by a yellow-carded player that deserves a second yellow card.
a) If the fouling player plays for the team that the VAR officials hypothetically would like to favour, they would follow the rules and not inform the referee, and the player remains on the pitch.
b) If the fouling player plays AGAINST the team that the VAR officials hypothetically would like to favour, they could claim they believe it's a straight red card so the referee would need to be informed and he'd end up dishing out the second yellow card, because he's now seen the replay, and the player is sent off.

Basically the foul is the same in situations A and B, yet because the VAR was a bit too harsh in B then the end result is very different. In one case, the player is sent off. In the other, he remains on the pitch, despite the referee supposedly having the final say.

Well, if you think the world is corrupted then can not change anything and in any case if the referee do not think that foul deserve a red he will not give it (and he can not give that second yellow after seeing the VAR if you do not know that)

No I did not know that. So if the ref is called he has to either give a red card or leave his decision as is?

I'm shocked to learn that 17 out of Morocco's 23-man squad (74%) were not born in Morocco.

It's unfortunate that this is allowed.

Yes, at least by the rule book... Sure would fairer if VAR has power also on yellow cards but we will need to wait for that

This is ridiculous.

Let's say no corruption is in place. A player on a yellow makes a foul, but the referee doesn't see it. The VAR team authentically see it as worthy of a straight red card, so they call on the referee. The referee takes a look at it and believes it's not worthy of a straight red but only a double yellow card. Since he cannot give a yellow card he would be forced to allow the player to play on, despite both the referee and the VAR believing the player should be sent off.

It's hard for players like this. Even if they would play for the country where they were born people would complain they are not from this country. For example lots of people complain about Switzerland for not having many real Swiss players. Even in Slovenia there are always complaints for players that have roots from other Balkan countries, even if they lived their whole life in Slovenia.

I know we've been over this a long time, but since this is a NATIONAL (rather than ETHNICAL) team, then a basic requirement for me is not to only hold citizenship but to have lived in the country for a few years. I find it disgusting that players visit a country for the first time in their life in order to represent the country's national team in a home match, and shame on the national teams that allow such players to play for their team. Where is the pride?

So today at work, we did the drawing of the World Cup sweepstake game. Everyone bets one euro and randomly draws a team. Guess whom I got? :D

To be fair, he HAD the offer of his life. He blew it; going to Madrid now tail between his legs and marked for life as either the man who either had nothing to do with that team winning the Cup, or completely responsible for making the team bow out at the last minute.

Pretty darn stupid if you ask me. The question everyone should be asking is: Why didn't Perez wait until the end of the WC to announce it?

Possibly his real intentions worked out to perfection. He got the coach he wanted, immediately.
