This is such a stupid decision by the Spanish fa. Two wrongs don't make a right. And reportedly, the players were against firing the coach. If that is true, the president of the fa acted just to satisfy his ego. A much better solution would have been to announce that they had agreed the terms of the coach leaving after the world cup.

To be honest I still don't understand why they fired him instead of parting ways after the tournament.

I was like "hmm... hopefully they will call Coman!"
Then I read your post.

To do what exactly? Win Bundesliga, which we most likely will?
Lose in Pokal to some team, no matter which one?
Stand no chance in CL?

None of these things will change either way...

That's even worse if the players aren't on board with the idea.

I think probable finalist of the World cup 2018 is France and Germany. These two teams have everything to win the world cup.

Spanish FA didn't know anything about the contract between Real Madrid and Julen Lopetegui. Spanish FA heard 5 minutes before the announcement. For this reason they fired Julen Lopetegui.

It can affect negatively in Spain team. Their plan, selection everything will change during the world cup. To adopt with the new manager needs some time, but Spain have don't enough time.

The VAR won't be used to give a second yellow card if I'm understanding correctly.

Let's say there's a player on a yellow card and does a foul which the referee does not see. If the VAR team think the foul deserves a straight red card, then they inform the referee and he would decide what to do. If the VAR team think the foul deserves a second yellow card (and hence the player should be sent off), they do NOT inform the referee. Sounds like a lot of power (and opportunity for corruption) in the hands of the VAR team to me.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not really... That imply who VAR has a lot less power than referees and who yellow cards are totally off their jurisdiction in any case (as is in Bundesliga or Serie A right now)

That's not how I see it.

Take a hypothetical scenario where the VAR officials were bought and the referee misses a foul by a yellow-carded player that deserves a second yellow card.
a) If the fouling player plays for the team that the VAR officials hypothetically would like to favour, they would follow the rules and not inform the referee, and the player remains on the pitch.
b) If the fouling player plays AGAINST the team that the VAR officials hypothetically would like to favour, they could claim they believe it's a straight red card so the referee would need to be informed and he'd end up dishing out the second yellow card, because he's now seen the replay, and the player is sent off.

Basically the foul is the same in situations A and B, yet because the VAR was a bit too harsh in B then the end result is very different. In one case, the player is sent off. In the other, he remains on the pitch, despite the referee supposedly having the final say.
