Spain was one of the favourites to vote for Morocco 2026.

Rubiales had to be with the team and announce the firing; so Spain misses the vote.

This was one of the most stupid moves I’ve ever seen coming from a national team

Exactly!! Perez must have a big smile on his face right now lol.
I’ve read even Barca players wanted him to stay, this is ridiculous for them...

I don't remember, but definitely it can be done. Why not? Nothing prevents you from doing that.

But just before the start of the World Cup - yes.
Vahid Halilhodžić twice - Ivory Coast before South Africa 2010 and Japan before Russia 2018.

This is insane what Real Madrid actually did to Lopetegui. The dirtiest club in the world. :D He might screw his career if the whole next season goes in completely wrong direction. :D

Funnily I was talking about this with my dad just last weekend who was coaching SPAIN ( ) in the world cup in FIFA and for some reason the matches vanished from the calendar halfway through (then reappeared) and he wondered if he had been sacked.

My reasoning is this: obviously it can be done, but it probably never will be. If a team is winning, there's no reason to sack the coach, and if they lose, they're already out anyway.

Does anyone remember the row between Ribs and Domenech in Africa 2010? I remember it was a disaster but can't recall if someone got the sack.

Anelka had been sent home but as far as I know the coach stayed until they got eliminated.

El Pais: "Lopetegui's agent, Jorge Mendes, told him for over a year that he would get him the Real Madrid job. Lopetegui felt he didn't have enough cache built up, thought it was just bravado from Mendes and didn't believe him. But Mendes insisted he was serious and reminded Lopetegui that in the football world he's able to make the impossible happen"

And he gave him that few hours before Lopetegui's team was playing at the World Cup against Mendes' Portugal.

Anyways, Goalimpacts predictions for the World Cup, based on estimated player quality of the best 15 players in each squad, homefield advantage(only applies to Russia), and schedule effects:

Can't see tweet? Click here!

Interestingly, Croatia, Denmark, and Saudi Arabia are seen as surprisingly good compared to what people would generally expect of them.
