Not sure whether the draw could throw them together earlier but Spain, France, Brazil, Germany should be the last 4 if they avoid each other.

Well, France eliminated Germany in the Euros and were eliminated by the eventual winners in WC2014 (Germany) and Euro2012 (Spain)

I don't think they did THAT bad recently to be honest

They've also won 1 World Cup, 1 Euro + played another World Cup final not so long ago.

If Brazil are always favourites I can't see why France couldn't be counted as well. Even if Deschamps is not a good coach.

Of course, they also utterly s**t the bed in the final in their home country playing against what might've been the worst finalist in a European/National competition that I've ever seen.....

I still think they are amongs the favourites

In 2014 the lost to Germany in a fairly equal match and only Hummels header in a set piece decided the game

in 2016 they beat Germany 2-0

They might have choked in the final, but their squad is much stronger now

Pogba, Kante, Dembele, Mbappe, Griezmann >>>>>>>> Pogba, Matuidi, Sissoko, Payet, Giroud, Griezmann

Why is Löw considered better than Deschamps?

Aren’t Giroud and Matuidi still in the squad?

I agree France have a terrific squad and as Lukas said. If there are no big upsets at the main tournament, the semifinals could possibly be Brasil vs France and Deutschland vs España.

Anyway, this will possibly be the most open World Cup in recent times with so many joint favourites and many really good teams. :D

In 2016 Rizzoli gave them a hand to reach the final...
Nobody would have taken it away from the Germans.

To me Loew has drastically improved his coaching since Euro 2012. In terms of coaching NT's, I don't think there is someone better than him at the moment

That early? I mean, I‘m okay with him now, I used to criticize him a lot... The whole Khedira-Schweinsteiger thing drove me mad - but maybe that was actually masterclass helping Schweini to be fit for the crucial part of the tournament... But that Mustafi shit? Playing a CB as Fullback at all costs? And Mertesacker? Honestly, to this day I think without that Mustafi injury we would’ve never been world champions...

Knows his players, knows how they perform best, knows who to be deployed at what situation. Knows who he has to field and how they should play in most situations.

And he is not scared to experiment with new tactics

I agree that he made lot of mistakes in the past. And I agree that Mustafi injury played a crucial role in our chances of winning WC 2014 and Lahm was wasting his time as CM. But he deserves lot of credit for all what he has achieved

We often talk about NT's with great players that fail to build any success. But Germany has been always in the final stages of every tournament since he took over

Euro2008 - 2nd
WC2010 - 3rd
Euro2012 - semifinals
WC2014 - 1st
Euro2016 - semifinals
CC2017 - 1st

I wouldn't feel safer with any other coach. Loew has done a brilliant job and managed a smooth generational renewal after 2008. He knows the team and the players better than no one and I can't think of someone who would do a better job than him :)

I don't know if he would ever be any successful in club coaching, but as Germany NT coach he is the perfect fit.

I think he’s a shit club coach and he proved it many times... Agree on the rest though, basically...

But I‘m sorry, I gotta steer this thread OT now!

You actually speak of the German NT as "us"? You’re a Spaniard, right? :D
Don’t get me wrong, I‘m not taking umbrage at it or anything, quite the opposite! I just think that was unthinkable a few years ago - for different reasons...

Yes. I thought it sounded funny when I wrote it

I've always supported German NT as my fist football memory is a WC1994 sticker album. I instantly fell in love with this sticker for whatever reason. I think I liked the jersey and the foil on it. I also liked the name of the players (Klinsmann, Michael Schultz, Haessler, Moeller...)

Image

I was only 5 years old by the time the World Cup took place and I have lots of memories from many different games. Even the 1-1 versus Spain. I remember teasing my old brother when Germany scored the equaliser :D

Since then I became a football addict and started to support Bayern as I loved how the words Bayern Munich sounded  Those were not specially good times for Bayern, so I'm not the glory hunter kind of supporter. My dad also bought me a genuine Germany adidas jersey that I used to wear every day at school. :D

Now in modern football I see no special reason to support your own country NT. I understand it makes more sense rather than a foreign NT, but on the other hand the Spanish Federation is full of corruption and we also have players like Diego Costa who represent Spain just because their country rejected them.

Also I love Bundesliga for many reasons and I would not be able to cheer up for Madrid and Barcelona players and go against the players that I watch and support every weekend.
