Anyone else want give their preferred round-of-16 winners (meaning teams you want to win, not teams you necessarily think will win)? Here are mine:

Uruguay
France
Brazil
Belgium
Russia
Denmark
I like Switzerland slightly more than I like Sweden
England

No way will they beat Colombia. They look an excellent side, or at least they did when I watched them in their second half v Poland.

Yeah you viewed the best of colombia they were really poor today. Dont forget it was Englands reserves today as well honestly James being injured is absolutely shit and he is the vast majority of Colombias threat. Id rather beat the best they have to offer but Id rather James was fit for next season and doesnt aggravate his injury with the bonus of qualification to the qfs. Didnt realise how good James was til he wore a bayern shirt obviously he was class at the last wc but in a real shirt he never seemed that impressive watching him last season was a joy to watch.

Uruguay*
France**
Mexico***
Japan
Spain
Croatia*
Switzerland****
Colombia*

* Hope one of these three wins the World Cup
** Don't like France but Argentina is a lot worse. Main positive - one of them will be out.
*** No fan of Mexico (and their homophobic chants towards Neuer) but tired of Brazilians, their arrogance & hatred of Germany. Never stop talking how great they are, how Tite is the greatest coach ever. Not to mention that prick Neymar, his face is on all the products here (soon his face will be on condom packs) and he does comercials of EVERYTHING. Besides, they have five, they can take a break till Germany has at least five (or six)
**** Can't stand these annoying Swedes, playing dirty, giving plane tickets to Khedira... and then complaining about celebrations...

Perfect semis for me:

Portugal - Belgium
Croatia - Columbia

I wouldn’t mind anyone from this bunch lifting the cup. 3 of those 4 have shown that they deserve it in one way or another, while in case of Columbia it’s a personal preference with James as a crucial factor that determined my choice - I want our best guy at the top.

This, exactly.
I think Argentina this year might be like Portugal in the last Euros. Not terribly convincing, but somehow able to keep moving along...
For me Brazil, Belgium, Spain, and Croatia all win without much trouble. I think England gets past Colombia without too much hassle either, but if James is healthy maybe it will be closer. Still not Colombia has enough. Switzerland-Sweden might sneakily be one of the better matches of the round. I think it's a true toss-up but I think Germany performed so crap amidst a group of crap it's led people to be a bit higher on the Swedes than they ought

So 100 years?

I hate those **** too... Ooh but they’re soooooooo much more sympathetic and their game is soooooooo beautiful and they’re so much better... They’re **** arrogant pricks... In all the WCs I've seen the only thing that tgey always had was luck... And the one time they didn’t (they did at first but it stopped in the SF) - they lost 7-1...
If they don’t win it I'm happy... Then exclude the other two pussies (Portugal and Argentina) and I'm fine with any of them...

Non-Belgian, yeah sure... From the 11 players who started yesterday :

Thibaut Courtois - Belgian parents
Leander Dendoncker - Belgian parents
Thomas Vermaelen - Belgian parents
Dedrick Boyata - Belgo-Congolese parents
Thorgan Hazard - Belgian parents
Nacer Chadli - Moroccan parents, born and raised in Belgium
Marouane Fellaini - Moroccan parents, born and raised in Belgium
Mousa Dembele - Belgian mother and Malian father, born and raised in Belgium
Adnan Januzaj - Kosovar parents, born and raised in Belgium
Youri Tielemans - Belgian father and Congolese mother, born and raised in Belgium
Michy Batshuayi - Congolese parents, born and raised in Belgium, never put a foot in RD Congo.

So of your 11 "non Belgians", you have in fact 4 who don't have any other nationality, 2 who are more than 50% linked to Belgium (one parent + lived there their whole life).
You still have 5 other players, all of whom were born Belgian, raised there, played all their youth football there...

Honestly, you gotta stop with this nonsense "you should always play for the country of your ancestor". For most of these guys (not only in the Belgium case, it applies to most people who are "non-European" according to your criteria), they have barely any contact with the country of their ancestor and everything links them to Belgium. You could even go further and ask yourself what has their ancestors' ever done for them?

This is the goddamn 21sr century : I live in Brussels and everywhere I go, I see Belgians with different ethnicities and it's f*cking beautiful! Why the hell should it be different in the national team?
