I think I read somewhere that FC Bayern will go to court if Ribery doesn't win, because the voting was extended.

That would be really silly.

I'm sure that is not true but it would be extremely funny if they do and win the case, cancelling all votes after the extension.

Imagine how much more the international world will hate us. :P

EDIT: When will the winner be revealed anyway?

Well this is interesting. The stats, goalscoring notwithstanding, would suggest that in fact Ribery is the more valuable player in his team. He's the best playmaker by a mile, has the best defensive contribution, doesn't waste the ball on pointless shots, crosses, or passes, isn't caught offside every other minute... keep in mind that the duel stat also takes into account his increased defensive contribution, so it's only logical that it's lower than Ronaldos.

Again, I don't really care who the award goes to - my vote would go Neuer for his dribbling skills every day of the week - but its odd how many people say that Ribery doesn't have the "stats" that Ronaldo and Messi do. Goal-scoring on its own isn't enough to win titles - and Ribery has won ever so many titles.

Clear winner if one is to be objective. But we all know no one is.

Re: Franck Ribéry

Postby kod2600 » Sat Jan 11, 2014 8:41 pm

So the Ballon d'Or is few days away, and our man Ribery as we all know is in the final 3 nominees against Fifa playboys Ronaldo and Messi. Now after they extended the voting period and the overreaction of the media (as usual) about Ronaldo's 3 goals against Sweden (in the Playoffs lol) I was sure they will give it to Ronaldo. With Messi being out of the picture, what do you think of this? Do you think Frank deserves it? or as Madrid fans always defend their player (he scored more goals)?
Well I'm 100% convinced that Ribery deserves it but also 100% sure they will give it to Ronaldo. But I stopped caring about this award ages ago as their standards differs depends on who they want to win.
(I stopped caring means I won't be sad if Ribery didn't win)

If we want this to be objective, then how the winner is determined needs to be scientific. But it's not and I doubt it would be in the future.

I've made my piece on this award and the awarding ceremony (like if Jupp didn't win as well as most of our players in the Team of the Year). At the end of the day, what's most important is what the club achieved. And the fans who say otherwise were probably trophyless--i.e. Ronaldo fans. :P  8)

Well, you can wish as much as you want but it's really a formality: Ronaldo has definitely won it.

At sportingbet, they are so certain that Ronaldo won it that if you bet 100 euros on Ronaldo and he does win it, you would win just 3 euros.
If instead you bet 100 euros that Ribery won it and he does somehow end up winning it, you would win 2,000 euros! [source]

You can rest assured that these bookmakers have indeed studied and asked around what people have voted. They've never been so certain about a winner.

You also need to remember that these are the same people that a year ago voted an entire FIFA Best XI playing in the Spanish Liga. Their admiration (tried hard to find a politically-correct word here) for La Liga isn't going to die after just one year, a year in which the Spanish teams did well anyway with two teams in the Champions League semifinals.

1) Ronaldo
2) Messi
3) Ribery.
