One question though. How does the media vote work?

Will it be the same media voters again this year or how are the votes allocated?

I believe that THIFA directs even votes, a major part of it... whoever they want to win, wins.

Blatter is calling Messi a good boy and talking about Neuer as an all-timer, but in the end someone else is getting the award.

Maybe they want to make up for last year... but I don't think so.

I'd like if Messi won it, then we wouldn't see CR7 anymore(due to instant heart attack)... Then it would be 1 less. One down, one more to go.

If Neuer wins it, we'd see 'the best' of CR7... THIFA doesn't want that, they don't want to hurt CR7 feelings.

For what it's worth, "Bild" just published the results of a representative poll among Germans asking who is their most popular German sportsman/woman.

Bild Poll [source]

Overall results:
1. Miroslaw Klose
2. Manuel Neuer
3. Dirk Nowitzky
4. Thomas Müller
5. Mats Hummels
6. Bastian Schweinsteiger
7. Felix Neureuther
8. Philipp Lahm
9. Marco Reus
10. Lukas Podolski

Split according to men and women:

So, we are a football-crazed nation. Only 2 non-footballers among the top 10 (3 among the votes of the women). And isn't it amazing how everyone still loves good old Miro to bits. :)

Miro gave everything for Germany... Miro lives for Germany.
And it's funny to hear people say that he isn't German.

I don't think anyone in Germany says that Miro isn't German. We seem to have a warm place in our hearts for polish-born strikers, though. After all, Poldi is in the list as well, ahead of Mario Götze, Andre Schürrle, Mesut Özil and who else. I'd bet that if Lewandowski were German, he would be top 10 as well. He reminds me a lot of Miro, humble, quiet, hard working guy. Loved him ever since I noticed him at Dortmund.

Have to admit, I'm a little bit proud of that outcome. No poster boys leading the poll, but Miro, Manu and Dirk. I doubt if Penaldo were German he'd win such a poll.

So Klose's going to retire playing when he's 50?

After he retired from the NT? Like a fish out of water, it won't be long...

When Klose is 50, we'll have more than 4 stars above our emblem.

Hmm interesting. So in the eastern countries Neuer is voted as the 1st one. Still I think Ronaldo and Messi will get alot of votes from southamerican players and coaches. Just look at Neymar.. Why did he put Mascherano in front of Neuer? MASCHERANO... The forever benched player. It's just like I'd vote for Shaqiri

Well the Brazilians and Argentines certainly won't be voting for any German players.
