With Ribery on the left side and Kroos distributing in the final third. bastos80 is right, you'd need multiple Thiago's.

Problem was more about the way we played. Not the players.

Müller as RW would have worked with Ribéry as LW and Thiago as #10.

3 Thiago wouldn't have been needed.

What I'm saying is if Griezmann were the LW.

If Griezmann was LW and Müller RW ? Yeah maybe 2 Thiago kind of player would be needed. Actually even with 2 Thiago not sure it would work.

I'm not at all fan of this 4-3-3 with Müller. Never worked.

If Griezmann was LW, Müller AM and Robben RW ? One Thiago is way enough.. It would be a great trio.

I only said it *might* work. I don't particularly care for Griezmann. My preferred front 3 would be Alexis-Lewy-Müller

For me a 4-3-3 in the way we are playing for years with Müller on a wing = Boring and not efficient.

I don't understand people want that... 4-3-3 would be better without Müller IMO.

I see Ancelotti moving to a Christmas tree 433 and we will be relying on our fullbacks to provide the width:

.................Lewa
James/Griezmann...Muller
..........Javi.............Vidal
.................Thiago
Alaba..Mats..Boa..Joshua
................Neuer

Our wide players will be more like inside forwards and won't be required to provide width since we have capable fullbacks that can do that. While the midfield would be marshaled by some of the best in the game and probably the most balance as well.

I would preferably like Thiago as the Regista but our CMs are very flexible to play in any role we need them in....

Yeah, wasn't very nice to look at. Especially ina posession based team. But I guess that's personal preference...

I'm saying that dribbling is an important tool, but it isn't everything. I do, in fact, prefer having at least one or two good dribblers in the starting lineup because it adds our tactical options, but Brandt's virtues outweigh the fact that he prefers not to dribble and create chances that way. Thus, focusing only on Brandt's dribbling ability is not a good idea.

I'm also not particularly in favor of a Brandt-Lewandowski-Muller attacking trio, as I somewhat prefer having Muller play as secondary striker, and prefer the 4-2-3-1 over the 4-3-3 greatly, but it could work, especially if we had someone with good dribbling abilities playing at attacking midfield, like Thiago, James, or (maybe) Ozil. However, I prefer, if we take out Robbery, playing:
Lewandowski
Brandt Muller Coman
Thiago Vidal
Alaba Hummels Boeteng/Javi Kimmich
Neuer
This offers another attack option through Coman.

Dumbledore7 wrote:With Ribery on the left side and Kroos distributing in the final third. bastos80 is right, you'd need multiple Thiago's.

I was going through Muller's history, notably his drop off in attacking success from the right the season after Kroos left(although some of that might have to do with Xabi Alonso's arrival), and it does seem like Muller requires a good trequirtista in the center in order to play at full potential on the right(and, yes, both Ozil and Kroos work fine for the NT, so it's not specific to Kroos).

So, basically, if we want to play Muller on the right, we should either have Thiago play as trequirtista and rotate Sanches and Rudy as regista(unfortunately we don't have someone like Schweinsteiger to plug into whatever role we need him as in the midfield anymore), or we should sign another player to play as a 10.

On the other hand, pushing Muller out to right basically means that we need one fewer winger. Given how hard it is to find a good one of those these days that might make sense, especially as there are three world class playmakers on the market right now(James, Ozil, and Isco), and all of them are likely to cost less than any of the remaining good wingers.

I like that. If the goalkeeper is not gonna play anyway and won't contribute through his ability, it might as well be a big name. Think about what he adds to the team environment and dressing room atmosphere, Ulreich is probably one of those guys who gets shunned to the corner. On the other hand, even our players will treat Casillas or Adler with respect similar to Pepe Reina, makes everyone even more proud to be in the same camaraderie.

Transfer Wish list...

Postby FCBayernMunchen » Thu Apr 13, 2017 11:24 am

If we plan to keep this formation post-Robbery: Hazard, Sanchez (or young superstar), and a good backup striker (Gomez would do)

If we plan to move away from wing play: James, Mbappe, Verratti

He's a better but more unlikely option than Sanchez
