Bale's career as a WC player is already over. Unfortunately he's not capable of running anymore.

I believe same things said for Robben. I admit he was 3 years younger when he came to Bayern. But look at Robben 34 and still kicking. Bale is still 28 with good diet and fitness he can still go for years. By the way Lewandowski is nearly 30 one of these day we will have get rid of him while he's still valued.

No that's not what I mean. His legs are broken, he literally can't sprint. Half of how he changes games is with his speed, and he can no longer do that.

I like the idea of Bale alright but I don't have any confidence in him staying healthy and TBH Bale + James (who we are going to buy either way and shouldn't be thought of as a factor in Lewy "negotiations" or as a "bargaining chip") for Lewandowski would be highway robbery. I am 100% Madrid would have Bale on the next plane to Munich if they thought they could get Lewy for Bale+James. They would be elated that we would even consider such a swap.

We missed on Sané, Dembele, KDB and a host of other great wide players switching sides in the last few years...

We shouldn't miss on Martial, even if we have to pay dearly for him.

Why Martial? I thought you were promoting wingerless play?

Because wing plays are simply much more appealing subconsciously, whether you want to lie to yourself about it or not.

He can play centrally in 442 and would also work fantastically opposite Müller in a less wingy 433/4231.

Wingplay is obviously more appealing. I've never argued otherwise. What I HAVE argued is that it makes no sense to bench either Müller or James for a mediocre winger like Bailey or Malcom, or a past-it one like Robben. In fact, there are very very veeeeerryyy few players for which it makes sense to even consider benching either James or Müller.

Besides, Martial is not even so much of a winger. Not as dribbly as say Dembele or Coman.

Besides, my preferred formation/tactics is a Tuchel or Löw-like 4231 with;

Lewy
NewLW-James-Müller
Thiago-Javi
ABHK
N

The 442-d or 442 with wide attacking midfielders is just something I think we should do if we can't get a serious upgrade on LW. AND I also think 442 is what we should be doing this season, given that we don't even have Coman available.* Even if we do get one, 442 would be interesting to have as part of our tactics repertoire.

* I also think a 442 variant would be good to get the most out of Tolisso, but getting the most out of Tolisso wouldn't be my priority. My priority would be to get the most out of Müller, James and Lewy.

Possibilities for NewLW:

- Hazard (Highly highly highly unlikely, but it's possible that he will want to move; still would have to fight off Madrid).
- Martial (not entirely unambiguously better than Coman, but those two can fight it out for the spot / rotate. Would be ok with offering Vidal to sweeten the deal and I'm sure Manure would want to reunite him with Pogba and Mourinho would love him).

Can't think of anyone else I really like and could be gotten, tbh. Maybe Brandt to play as LAM backup for James in a 442 with wide midfielders.

^ don't forget we have Goretzka coming in next season. We need to accommodate all those midfielders somehow.

am i the only one who doens't like that robbery gets an extension. it just makes it harder for us to move on from robbery and replace them with a new winger. if we dont extend them we'll have so much more options, we could go for malcom and we would still be able to play muller rw when needed. we could also get some worldclass winger (my preffered option is hazard) or we could get martial but if robben en ribery are both staying we will have so many wingers if we also buy a new one. think about it: robben, ribery, coman, gnabry, new winger and we also would wanna play with muller on rw sometimes to fit him in the lineup. id say dont extend either and buy hazard, martial or malcom. then we would have: coman, gnabry, possibly muller, new winger. 4 players for 2 positions seems right to me. let me know what you think.
