Well, I'm most certainly not saying "let's sell Boateng, whatever the cost, and get no-one". I'm saying that if all of the following conditions allign, then we should sell:

1) he wants to leave
2) he will fetch a good enough price
3) we can get a younger healthier potentially WC player to replace him

Else, then keep him. But regardless of him staying or going, I think Süle should be given the majority of the RCB minutes, unless Boateng proves conclusively that he is better.

Well, if we go by Goalimpact, the best CBs in the world are(in no particularly order) Pique, Batra, Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Varane, and Jannik Vestergaard. Obviously, because of how goalimpact works, this doesn't include young talents(even ones that are rated very, very high like Sule), but it is still an interesting list. The "best catches" among them(i.e. available and relatively young) would be Batra(who I think would be a great addition) and Vestergaard(who is a surprise to see on this list but I've barely ever seen him play). Meanwhile, goalimpact rates Matthijs de Ligt as the best under 20 talent for CB, but, because he is so young, it will be at least a couple years before he makes sense as a regular starter even if his development goes well.

Thoughts?

Give de Ligt a season and he would be amazing! We can still win BL. Plus we would have a new wc CB

I think Boateng was talked into staying one more season last summer. As we remember there were several reports last summer that Boateng was already looking for a new challenge. I can't see him and the board trying to extend their relationship for another season. Kalle has already criticized Boateng for his off court business and lifestyle. I personally think that Kalle would be glad to accept an good offer for Boateng.

I personally like Boateng since his signing in 2011. He has played some great football here at Bayern, but last season he had a very difficult time, poor form and poor play. This season he stepped up and has played really well. But, his injury problems and especially this thigh problem (similar as to 2016) is putting a big question mark for me on his future at Bayern. Also we can get a pretty good price for him this summer, not as good next summer IMO.

I certain that Süle can be our Boateng replacement right now. His play this season has been very good. And he's been healthy all season long. A partnership of Süle and Hummels next season would be fine by me. Mai and another young signing and were set.
In Kalle I trust

Some rumors surfaced that we were after Söyüncu who ülays for Freiburg but we werent able to secure his signature. I do think the board is preparing for Boatengs departure this summer. I am very glad that Süle has exceeded expectations by far, we should be okay if Boateng leaves.

Yes, thanks to Süle we're in a good position.

De Ligt or Mai are fine as the CB's 4th spot, but not 3rd. If Hummels gets injured, do you think a pairing of Sule - Mai or Sule - De Ligt will cut it in the Champions League ? We'll get roasted.

I don't know if you read my previous post, but I think I clearly stated the reasons why we should keep Boateng

I'm not confident with 2) but even if we get a good amount for him ( +50M ) which player do you think falls in that category?

It's not easy to find young healthy potentially WC center backs for a good price

I'd be happy with Hummels, Boateng, Suele and Javi Martinez as emergency 4th CB

Hummels, Boateng, Suele, Javi Martinez equals to Dante, Boateng, Badstuber and Van Buyten

We just need to invest in quality attacking players and a back up RB/LB. Other than that we are fine.

The ones who can go are Rudy, Bernat, Sanches and maybe even Vidal.

In that case they would probably use Javi.

My thinking is this: assume we *can* sign De Ligt as a new young CB.

For me Hummels - Süle should already be the starting CB pair.

Is having Martinez - De Ligt really THAT much worse than having Martinez - Boateng as backups?
(Boateng as he currently is, not how he was 2-3 years ago....different players)

I don't think the difference is so great as it's being made out to be.
I'm not saying we should sell Jerome just for the sake of selling and I don't wanna force him out but he's been a great player for us, been here a long time and always faithful...if he wants a new challenge and we can get a suitable young CB like De Ligt we shouldn't hold him hostage.

Jerome Boateng : "I want to get fit, play the World Cup and then go to the new season with Bayern."

Thoughts about club change ? : "At my age, that's normal, but I have a contract here, and I have no intention of leaving, I feel comfortable here."
