Bayern never submit to clubs astronomical demands, Man C wanted to sell Boateng for 10m more than Bayern bought him for :P

They only have Basque Country players in their squad. That's their philosophy and that's why they are admired by a lot of people out there.

Heynckes coached them a few years ago, so I guess he knows their transfer politics. I'd be surprised if he leaves for less than 35-40M. And that's too much money IMO but there are some things that make me thing about it. Heynckes, Mourinho and Tito Vilanova are in love with this player, so he must have something special

BTW when we signed Lizarazu from Athletic a long time ago I think we also payed the release clause.

Then how come Atletico had him if he wasn't Basque? I don't think it's completely Basque-only so maybe we could sell them Gustavo, not like we would since he's a really good destroyer and an underrated one IMO.

And another thing :)

Javi Martinez plays for Athletic.

Athletic is different than Atletico

Athletic Club Bilbao =/= Atletico de Madrid

If he's saying that publicly then he must be confident of getting him in.

I guess Can is a good enough stand-in in his preparations for now, they seem to me at least to be rather similar players (tall, versatile box-to-box midfielders).

All this history getting really dodgy. Either Bayern pays these 40 mln and gets Martinez, or just move away from him. What is the point to procrastinate this story. Bilbao stated clearly about transfer fee and that is it. I got feeling that Bayern board does not want to splash those money at all but at the same time they want to be good to their fans. That is why they are trying to create opinion they are trying to get Martinez very seriously. I do not think we will get him anyway, at least things do not look convincingly good for FCB. I hope I am wrong, I would be really happy if this transfer comes through...

For us it looks like that, but they know much more than us about what's going on in the dealing between the two clubs. If they still haven't given up, they must have some indication that there is still a possibility (even if it is small) that we will get him.
