Well, for years we bought players only for the coach... Braafheid, Prancic, Donovan...

Also... People forget this shit has always been the case here because we had a little success...
I mean did you seriously forget the whole "Santa Cruz can play there" and "Makaay can play there" - era where we didn’t sign anyone as well for a few seasons? Kid ourselves about how oh so great our squad was that never beat an opponent worthy of the name?
Ended up playing Europa League?
Only difference: Bundesliga was better back then...

Achilles wrote:The transfer policy I mentioned has nothing to do with Kovac, this policy applies since ages for almost every coach. In the last decade no coach had much authority on the transfers. They forced quite a few players to every coach from Gomez to LvG, to Gotze to Pep and almost everybody to Kovac. While I agree on the Kovac topic, incompetent coach and can't be trusted plus that his recommendations were the likes of Vogts,Rebic,Perisic that's at the same time it's exactly the problem with the current transfer policy at Munich. As much as dumb is to trust an average coach like Kovac to take a huge part into the squad planning equally dumb is to completely ignore the coach's transfer targets YOU hired in the first place.

I don't mean to cross the river and go the EPL standards with the coach having almost complete control but I suggest a more collective approach, you have to sign some players from the coach transfer list and not do the squad planning completely on your own(Carlo,Kovac era) or just hear the profile of the footballer he wants and go out shopping without his consent(Odriozola for example) Let him play his -big- part otherwise you diminish his position and blame your transfer mistakes to him something like what Kovac suffered where he definitely wasn't the only one to blame for the whole terrible squad planning or failed transfers.
I get what you mean. But I insist there is a problem that needs to be addressed first, which is the boards poor decisions on coaches and SD. As I said, no point in letting Kovac have a part in the decision making when he was from the start doomed to last a short period.

Just another smaller "but": I don't think Götze was imposed on Pep. He played him frequently and to good effect. He might have preferred Neymar, but for him Götze was a great second best. Did not work, but it wasn't a bad call from the begining. Overall, I think Pep was given pretty much anything he asked for.

I like Flick as a person... A lot... Bit he has to be blamed for the regular dip in form in second halves... As long as he doesn’t manage to phase it out... He shouldn’t be considered head coach...

Im not sure, I mean... It's not like there any expectacular coaches available to replace him. Tuchel is not having such a great season, ETH is down to Europa League... If not Flick, then who?

I'm interested as well.

I like Flick's idea of football and what he has done with the squad in this short time but the 2nd halves are very troublesome and indicate that he doesn't really know what to do once the opponent had time to react. Same with Kovac, who also had games where he prepared the team very well at first.
Sané ---- Lewandowski ---- Gnabry
Davies - Thiago - Kimmich - Dest
Hernández -- Alaba -- Upamecano

Against Chelsea and Valencia after losing 3 key players in the summer? Must be a terrible coach.

If Kovac were in charge then, sure, WHOEVER. But Flick is doing very well which, for me, means an alternative coach has to reach a higher threshold.
