I just love how ShaqAttack gives credit to his teammates rather than doing a Ronaldo and celebrating like he ran the whole field and scored on his own.

AllensRoten wrote:Man both goals were amazing!!! His acceleration on the second goal was trademark. He's playing that center role as if he were making a statement. Seriously though, he seems to excel in the center role compared to the wings. Where does that leave him at Bayern? Force him on the wing after Ribery's gone? There's no space for him as CAM.

I'm delighted for Shaqiri and the Swiss that he got that hat-trick.

Without meaning to detract from his performance or ability, I think we need to step back and see things in perspective when considering central v wing roles for him. Last night, Honduras were not strong opposition, and his goals were not necessarily related to his central role: he came in from the wing to score one and ran onto excellent assists for the others. During the season at Bayern, he often lost his way in a central midfield role, was rarely creative enough there, unless coming on as an impact sub, and he seemed to lack the vision for a central midfielder. His performances on the wings were generally much better, and it seemed that on the wing, and hence only needing half the vision, suited him much better against good opposition. Perhaps he has developed better in a central role, but that is a recent development, and it will take a few more top games before we can be conclusive about that.

He was incredible for Switzerland this WC. It was a bit heartbreaking to watch him in that last game vs Argentina, never slowing down, creating opportunities, but none of his teammates were able to rise to his level. Probably one of my favorite players in the game right now, period. I hope he sticks around for a long time here, as these latest rumors seem to suggest. Either way, I'll be cheering hard for him wherever he goes <3

I wouldn't say incredible. Scored one 'incredible' goal and was their most creative outlet... But that's not saying much. He gave the ball away far too often for a team needing to play on the counter-attack.
