Naaahhh!! Bernat was definitely poor... awful in defense, and unimpressive in attacks... He did really have a bad game against Wolfsburg...

Thiago, on the other hand, was not really bad... He was subbed off for tactical reasons...

His dribbling today was too class! Even if it was just Dinamo Zagreb he looked last like he was skating on that pitch

He is starting to play better and better. Hopefully he stays fit so we can see how good he really is. He benefits from having a guy like kimmich to do his dirty work.

"... Thiago's comeback must be qualified, in its right measure. His lack of continuity is evident - after his ever-ending injury and relapses he just began to play at Bayern - but, his quality and personality however, show no inquiries. Without Xavi, La Roja needs a player with those qualities. Works as a leader. Directs, shouts, cheers, orders . . . His teammates, next to him, look better, specially his partner Isco. As the game is concerned, he searches the ball at all times, supports his teammate, has panoramic vision. He plays one touches as much as he resorts to the right pause. It is true that he likes himself too much so he enjoys himself a bit too much . . . a right Thiago, in his best physical condition, is a life insurance for this team [Spanish NT]."

I cannot understand why he is not being employed in #14 's place!
Imagine him aided by JM and Vidal...

Alonso's skillset is very different to thiago..more like Xabi and Iniesta.

but he has all the skills to play in that position. His vision, his passes , his cold bloodedness etc

I'd tend to agree with the last few posts. He's possibly not the best option for No6 or No10, but may be best as the 3rd player in that triangle, shuttling between the two. That said, I don't wish to endorse anything too static either; Guardiola will want things to be much more fluid than what I've described there.

Sorry ramsej, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read didn't you start to doubt Pep from the very first game, the 4-2 Supercup loss against Dortmund? Thiago played that exact role that game and it was a calamity, the first and last time he played there to date. Sure it's been a long time since then and he may have improved but it's a waste of his other skills and we have Kimmich to eventually cement that position. The way I see it, if you're not gonna play Iniesta there, don't play Thiago.

OK Dumbledore. I accept your reasoning... however since we are not new to players' positional changes I think it is worth giving it another try...(tbh I forgot, totally forgot that in his first game for us he played in that position...)
He'll play like Pirolo used to do... dictating the game and doing some incursions as well. I envisage a midfield trio comprising of :
Thiago, Javi Martinez and Vidal
