Exactly! He probably could excel at RB but that would be wasting his immense potential in the midfield. He should have started for Portugal in my opinion, they lacked that guy in the midfield to break Iceland's shell.

Unfortunately for Renato he is under Fernando Santos, a great coach but he doesn't trust youth, not at all.
What drives me crazy is that he made a trash RB like Danilo to play as a DMF instead of giving Renato a chance. Real Madrid's glam and Fernando Santos philosophy is a bad timing for Renato. I hope he will get more chances in the upcoming games, when he entered against Iceland he gave some fresh air and pushed the team but honestly I think it's unlikely to start in the next game because is a win or go home for Portugal and because I know Santos from his succesfull time at -coaching- Greece he doesn't like to risk.

Apparently Renato Sanches' name isn't pronounced the way I thought it would be pronounced....Marca had a fun segment on their website where they have all Euro players' names pronounced in their native tongue. Sanches doesn't sound anything like I thought.

Basically pronouncing all the letters, seems like the native speaker swallows half the sounds. And Sanches....Santsjesss, or sth.

It's not the Sanches which is weird but the Renato IMO. It sounds like Ran-up sun-chess
