Hard game for a debut, some serious press from Schalke.

I almost forgot that Sanches is very new to top European football as he was promoted straight from the youth team last season. So this is actually his second season playing professional football so it is almost no surprise he will have games like this one this early in his career.

To be fair he hasn't even had a full professional season yet in all.

He is in a new team. I noticed that few times Riberry gave him some indications during game. He is young and needs a little bit of time to addapt, also he tried a little bit too much in this game like taking defenders to 1 on 1 duels or changing the game with long balls, both ideas being prone to failure even when they are executed by experienced and skilful players.
Like a side note just look what pogba played for UTD against City. Really dissapointing for a UTD fan.
But I think will be just a matter of time. Our young player is a gem, and I m sure he will shine very soon.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the club took advantage of uncertainty at Manchester United when agreeing to sign Renato Sanches with a "handshake."

Bayern confirmed the signing of Sanches, 19, from Benfica for an initial €35 million in May, before he went on to impress as Portugal won Euro 2016.

And Rummenigge told Sport Bild that the Bavarians "reacted quickly" after United had failed to follow up their initial interest in the midfielder.

"We knew very well that Renato had a firm offer from Manchester United," he said.

The Bayern deal started to take shape on the eve of the club's Champions League semifinal defeat in Madrid against Atletico Madrid in April.

"I heard that the United deal couldn't be completed, as they didn't know who their next manager would be," Rummenigge added. "We invited Benfica's president and Sanches' agent to Madrid and that night we shook hands on the transfer."

Sanches' agent Jorge Mendes is reported to have sent a text message to Rummenigge after his client scored for Portugal in their Euro 2016 quarterfinal success against Poland in the summer, writing: "You can be really happy doing the business really early."Rummenigge said that Sanches was a Carlo Ancelotti recommendation before the Italian was installed as Pep Guardiola's successor as Bayern boss.

Ancelotti has since labelled the teenager "a phenomenon" and "one of the best players at Euro 2016."

Ancelotti already putting his finger prints on the squad. This is pretty much why I am not worried that he did not bring any more attacking reinforcements.

Also, it's worth remembering that even Alaba had some horrible performances at LB in early 2010. No one is world class in every single game, especially at that age.

Nothing ever was as terrifying as Martinez's 40 million investment during his first three weeks. Not even Trapattoni's press conferences.

Were you a fan when Makaay was bought? In relation to the club's income, Makaay was far more expensive and if I recall correctly it took him a while to score his first goal.

What about when Gomez was bought? He was a record signing... how was his start?

He scored 2 goals and assisted 1 on his debut (DFB-Pokal vs SpVgg Neckarelz, won 1-3), then scored another on his 2nd Bundesliga match.

I had forgot that because it was overshadowed by another phase later...
