I think we're expecting too much of him, especially in his first upcoming season. He's had a great year with Benfica and a very good EURO, but we do have excellent midfielders already in our squad and it won't be easy for him to break into the starting lineup so quickly. The sooner he's able to do so the better for us as he'd have proven himself by then, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and label him as our midfield general in a couple of weeks time. He's definitely not going to be a fringe player for us given the amount invested in him, but that same amount doesn't necessarily means that he's going to be a starter in an excellent Bayern midfield, at least not from the first season. We have him for at least 5 years, so you'd expect us to be looking long-term when it comes to Sanches.

I think Carlo will favor Xabi in the holding role and Vidal and Thiago in front on him but I wouldn't be surprised if Sanches is a full blown starter by the end of the season.

He played Xabi as the holding midfielder at RM because(hold on to your seat)Alonso is a holding midfielder. No Pep conspiracy here I'm afraid....

He was one of our best players towards the end of last season. :coffee:

I hope renato learns a lot from him..he has all the traits of Vidal..he should learn alonso's passing game then sky is the limit for him..feeling grateful that he extended..now renato has the chance..

There was a pinch of irony in that you know?!

Still think there are better options... Abd as good as he was in that second leg - he pretty much sucked in the first one... But whatever, I don't want to turn this thread around about him, I'm glad he's here, just don't want to see him start too much...

Pure class by Benfica. No spite what so ever, Sanches will do great with us, hopefully play with us for a long time...then retire at Benfica. I gained so much respect for Benfica there.

Yes, that was really classy. Maybe he will return there one day before retiring.
