This isn't right. I would pick Muller but it doesn't make sense as a comparison. Muller has been pretty much shit since Pep left. That's 3 seasons and a fourth one on the way now. I have no hope in him ever recovering. On the other hand it's not that long ago that Coutinho was one of the best in the world at Liverpool.

Inter made a mistake in letting him go. That much is clear and he was considered a huge talent. They didn't get rid of him because he wasn't good enough. The question is whether the past 1.5 years at Barca are the new norm or just a blip in his career. I believe the latter.

Btw saying Coutinho has been bad at Barca is all relative. If you take his stats from last season he would have been our third highest goalscorer behind Lewandowski and Gnabry (though admittedly Coman played much fewer minutes).

And 11th highest Bundesliga assister, joint with Boateng.

True, and ultimately he's not a striker although we do need a good goalscorer. I'd be curious to see how many assists he made to assist-givers as well though (as in the person who created the chance for the assist-giver). Sometimes stats can be a bit misleading.

I definitely have higher expectations than I had with James, whom I wasn't quite convinced about (though eventually I liked the transfer and think it was a mistake not to buy him).

Every mediocre player looks good at Liverpool though.
This is actually a great argument I hadn't thought about. If Liverpool made Firmino look WC, maybe performances at Liverpool shouldn't be used to judge a player.

Firmino isnt WC at Liverpool. Sane and Salah are.

I gotta disagree on that one. Mane and Salah would not have nearly the same amount of room to operate in without Firmino up front. Liverpool’s wingers are their main goal scoring threat because they sacrifice scoring with their striker to create opportunities for them. Firmino is a workhorse like no other and it’s may not show in statistics, but he is absolutely world class at what he does.

Hertha's Marko Grujić on Coutinho: "It's a big deal for the whole Bundesliga that we now have the opportunity to see Coutinho. He is a special, exciting player, capable of crazy things. I enjoyed every training with him. He will be by far the best footballer in Germany" [Bild]

Valverde: Coutinho Wanted To Leave Barcelona In May [source]

Asked about Coutinho following Barca's disappointing LaLiga opener, head coach Valverde told Movistar: "It is a situation that last season when the league ended the player had it in his head.

"This has come up, he has accepted and hopefully he is lucky."

Looks like the chances of him wanting to go back to Barca are slim.

So we already confirmed that we will trigger the clause, huh?
Sané ---- Lewandowski ---- Gnabry
Davies - Thiago - Kimmich - Dest
Hernández -- Alaba -- Upamecano
