If he was a Robben replacement, which means he would be at least as good as Robben, how come he is not a Die Mannschaft legend and the first name Loew will write down in the squad for Russia 2018?

If he was a Rafinha replacement, how would he not have rotted on the bench? This is what Rafinha has been doing.

You have to ask that to JL...

... let's just stop here

Remember his performances in the U21 tournament?
I think he did great.

You mean the Under 21 tournament he played in months after his 23rd birthday?

The Netherlands qualified for the 2006 World Cup and in their opening match against Serbia and Montenegro, Robben scored the winning goal in the 18th minute, and was named the Player of the match. In the match against the Ivory Coast, Robben received this award the second time, thus becoming one of the eight players in the tournament to have won multiple Man of the Match awards.

This is Robben at 22.
Weiser at 23 played well in an U21 tournament.
Ponder on that for a while. And then think about how Weiser is still not mostly played as a winger at mighty Hertha BSC, and how Chelsea and Real Madrid are NOT fighting for his signature.

But then wouldn't he be the perfect back-up RB for us? Young and decent. I'd get Max for the left Weiser to the right.

Would've been a great RB backup as he would have gotten minutes as a winger too (just like Bernat). If Leverkusen would make it to the CL...

Now maybe (but nothing more of course!), but my point is that had he remained at Bayern his progress would have stalled and chances are he would be quite inferior to Rafinha at this point in time.

Agreed on that. We seem to be unlucky or unwilling with the prospects.

If I recall correctly, he was let go because he had attitude issues, a thing you most definitely don't want a backup to have.

Yeah, I remember this too, I think.
He got in some spats with Dardai this year I believe, he complained of attitude issues and poor effort in training.
While at Bayern it was reported that he repeatedly skipped training with the reserves and there was a time where FCBII were in preparation for a big match with Fortuna Köln and Weiser instead just decided to go on holiday, posted a bunch of pics of him watching an F1 race instead.
