essentially meaningless, but he put a couple past Neuer in training today. the more i see, the more i think he may be a decent option this season. certainly seems to be primed to at least feature occasionally.

If this is going to be the case then a I hope he gets minutes here and there throughout the whole season. With an inexperienced backup like Green we just can't have him make his first appearance in March when Lewandowski is injured (God forbid).

agreed. if Bayern plays a two-striker system, i can picture him getting a decent amount of playtime as a third option after Lewandowski and Müller

The training goals of today were good ones as well, not just simple tap ins.

I am actually looking forward to see Bayern playing with two strikers, Lewa in the box and a second striker running on his back. Not only this opens a place for Muller where he is effective the most making those surprise runs into the box but it allows to bring Green as a sub for 20-30 minutes so we can rest either Muller, Lewa or one of the wingers specially when the season gets dense.

This is the type of thing that I believe Ancelotti can bring back to Munich and was Jupp Heynckes main strength: the team is lined up based on your players and opponents' characteristics and that provides fluidity. Guardiola on the other hand has his own idea of how football needs to be played and each player must assimilate into those concepts or they are casted aside.

Bayern's official US twitter account retweeted this article...

Green has been a wide midfielder for the majority of his career – least of all the majority of his Bayern career – because he has those comfortable winger tropes. He is small, tricky on the dribble and comfortable coming inside. What few have thought to do – or at least been courageous enough to do – was stick him up top for a lengthy period of time. Because he is small, because it was thought he had more to offer outside, and because perhaps those minutes were easier to find for a 20-year old.

Ancelotti frankly does not care. Green has not been a revelation up top, so to speak, but he is far more of a poacher than anyone probably guessed. He is spatially tremendous and surprisingly tricky in that Ramdeuter Way that has propelled Thomas Muller. If Green was too removed from the action before, he is now in the middle of the line of battle at every build, flitting through the picket lines in search of service. [source]

He has a chance to get a few minutes in place of Lewa if the score line permits.

Not watching it, but Julian Green started for the USA in their friendly against Cuba. Might be his chance to show where he stands with his development.
