I would as well, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd go so far as to say that Javi is Carlo's favorite CB right now; even when Hummels, Javi, and Boateng were healthy (and I suppose Badstuber too, technically) he's elected to pair Hummels and Javi.

Perhaps once Süle arrives and Xabi retires it will give him more chances at CDM but even then I'm not sure. But if we could get him at CDM in front of any two of Hummels/Süle/Boateng and any of Alaba/Bernat/Rafinha/Kimmich/Rudy (Lahm?) on the flanks...that's a pretty stout defense.

So according to Uli H. he'll be Alonso's replacement in midfield.

Or how to replace a player with a total different profil ...

We'll see how it works.
4-3-3 : Neuer - Kimmich Boateng Hummels Alaba - Goretzka Thiago James - Robben Lewandowski Gnabry
3-5-2 : Neuer - Boateng Hummels Alaba - Thiago - Kimmich Goretzka James Coman - Müller Lewandowski

We'll see if we really need a Alonso with Boateng and Hummels in the back and Thiago in the midfield.

Boateng will replace the diagonal passes of Alonso, Thiago the main distribution and the rythm while Martinez will play next to Vidal as an anchorman and Vidal goes box-to-box since now he is running to cover literally everyone so we can keep our pressing high.

I think it could work fine.

Oh, yeah! As I had said the other day, limiting Javi to a rotation role with Boa and Hummels considering his amazing performances so far would have been unfair. Looking forward to see what Carlo comes up with and hope Müller readapts to playing RW.

And what about Robben?

Also Vidal isn't much different from Schweinsteiger, so no doubt it would work imo.

This might just work. Distribute the regista role amongst 3 players. I wonder if Ancelotti would play a destroyer as a pivot though.

Robben is nearing retirement. Yes he is still an absolutely crack player, but he is unreliable injury-wise and Müller has to play. IMO from next season on, he should be a super sub.

Yeah, I have no doubt Javi-Vidal+Thiago would be an amazing midfield.

Sure. But then we'd definatly need someone like Robben on the left side.

Regarding Robben's injuries and the so-called unreliable thing, I have to say that since he came the only big games he missed where the semifinals against Barca at 2015! He was in every big occasion there helping the team!

Javi is also considered an injury prone and in midfield he'll get much more action and contacts than being Hummels cleaner.
@bastos, Vidal's first touch & ball distribution and long balls are nothing compared to Schweini, he can't dictate the game, his technique is poor for that kind of style but he can contribute to other areas perfectly fine.

Actually we do not need Alonso even with Martinez and Alaba as CB :!:
