RED as always for Basti...
What they said about the motivation is so true...
When I used to play football and we got some big names on loan I felt like that - super motivated

His name is Derek Henkle, an AFP video journalist :

"I'm truly sorry if I offended anyone. As a general assignment video reporter, I was seeking facts at a press conference.
I get that I named the wrong trophy and greatly appreciate Schweinsteiger attempting to clean up the question for me. It was a classy move.
My question missed its mark, but it has allowed me to become better educated on the ins and outs of soccer.
I may have been one of the only general assignment guys in the room - but I believe, like a lot of Chicago, that Bastian Schweinsteiger's arrival presents an amazing opportunity for those of us who want to experience soccer to more fully embrace the sport.
I report on everything ranging from presidential politics to science - and I'm the first to admit that I don't know everything, but I do ask."

My partially deaf grandma knows clubs don't participate in a World Cup. Don't care if he's a general journalist and not a sports one, inexcusable. Should be fined or forced to do community service after the living he's stolen.

I don't get what the fuss is. There is a World Cup for clubs, it's called the FIFA Club World Cup and, technically, teams from 6 different continents can qualify for and win it. The general question was good, he just missed one word in the sentence and everybody kicked up a fuss. Yes, there is a world cup for clubs.

From the Chicago Fire perspective, this was a spectacular (and free) publicity stunt, they should be thankful to him

You're wrong. For non-European teams it's the greatest trophy a club can win. You live in Morocco, and I'm pretty sure that if Raja Club Athletic had beaten Bayern in the 2013 final it would be considered the greatest achievement by a Moroccan club ever.

The people in the room diverted the question of the journalist to the MLS Cup, but it's pretty obvious that the FIFA Club World Cup has more prestige for an American club, probably because it's very unrealistic of them to win it in the foreseeable future.

Well, this is mainly because you compete against the reigning UCL winners, but knowing that Europeans don't take it seriously, the CWC loses all of its importance.

^Irrespective of whether or not the Europeans take it seriously or not, it's their only chance to compete with a top European club in a competitive match, and you can see their (non-European clubs) determination in the competition every time. So yes, technically, Chicago Fire could win a world cup, the Club World Cup, and it'd be considered the greatest triumph of an American club, ever. I rate their chances of achieving this to be less than 0.0001% :)

Well, he didn't know what he was talking about but at least he was honest about it. Like most Americans he put 1 and 3 together to make 5. Not his fault us Americans call the the Major League Baseball championship the "World Series".

The problem isn't that European clubs don't take it seriously but that they are EXPECTED to win it every year. There's something obviously very wrong with its structure when a continental competition is that much harder to win.
