"We're really up for it"

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Sep 06, 2018 2:20 pm

The international break signals the end of the opening stage of the season. FC Bayern have won all four of their competitive games, and Javi Martínez is therefore feeling confident about the challenges ahead. In an interview with fcbayern.com, the Spaniard offered a brief summary of the season so far and looked ahead to what’s coming, with not only midweek fixtures coming up but also Oktoberfest.

Interview with Javi Martínez
The first stage of the season is over. How do you assess your start?
Javi Martínez: “Good, very positively. I think we’re all happy with how it’s gone so far. Obviously there’s still a long way to go but we need to keep going. If we do that then it’ll be a successful season.”

Niko Kovac and also his brother Robert keep joining in with training themselves. What’s that like for you?
Martinez: “You can certainly tell they were both footballers. They still love playing football and taking part in the rondos. You also sense it when they speak to us or before a match. It’s certainly an advantage. If you were a player yourself then you understand what it’s about more.”

The Champions League starts again in two weeks. Is that a reason to be cheerful?
Martinez: “Of course, the Champions League is a great competition. You play against the best teams in Europe in the best stadiums and cities. We’re really up for it.”

Oktoberfest also starts shortly after that. You’ve been here a long time and are virtually a Munich expert. Are you looking forward to the festival?
Martinez: “It’s a nice time of year. Oktoberfest means a lot to the city and Bayern. I feel like a local so it’s nice for me too. It’s a time for enjoyment – you can spend quality time with family and friends there. I’m sure we’ll find a space in our diary…” (laughs)
