Van Gaal: That was very hard work

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Dec 05, 2009 1:15 am

Bayern beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 to make it three wins on the spin, but Louis van Gaal felt "the luckier team" won on the night. "Gladbach were the better team in the first half and made a lot of chances, but it was a great display from Jörg Butt," the coach said. "We sorted things out in the second half," the keeper himself commented, "we've played very well as a team in recent matches."

Reaction to Bayern v Mönchengladbach:

Louis van Gaal: "I'm very pleased, but that was extremely hard work. The luckier of the teams won tonight. Gladbach were the better team in the first half and made a lot of chances, but it was a great display from Jörg Butt. We had a lot of trouble containing their two central midfielders. We solved the problem with a tactical change in the second half, and we were a lot better after that."

Jörg Butt: "We're heading in the right direction. We've played very well as a team in recent matches. We had a few problems with our organisation in the first half tonight, but we sorted things out in the second half. Gladbach are a good team, so it was always going to be a challenge. We have three games to go before the winter break, we have to win them all, and we want to win them all. I think the crowd has picked up that there's a team out there on the field determined to win together. That's the decisive factor. The new ball travels in a relatively straight line, but maybe a little quicker. Overall, I think it's a very good ball. We've won, so I'm bound to say it was good. We talked about Arango this morning. Martin Demichelis knows him from South America and warned me he has a great shot on him. He had two or three really good efforts, but thankfully none of them went in."

Michael Frontzeck (Gladbach coach): "My team played extremely well against Bayern. That goes down as an unlucky defeat, because we deserved a point."

Tobias Levels (Gladbach): "We were tremendous tonight, especially in the first half, we were a real handful for Bayern and should have gone in at half-time with the lead. Hans-Jörg Butt made one or two outstanding saves. But we weren't playing just any old team, that was Bayern Munich. It's unlucky to lose to a set-piece, but that doesn't go down as a setback, we've taken another step forwards tonight."

Roel Brouwers (Gladbach): "We could have come away with all three points tonight. We played really well in the first half, but Bayern regained the initiative after Robben came on. We have to take away the positives. We didn't play at all badly and made it very difficult for Bayern."

Hope we continue this form!
If we do that, I am sure we will finish 2nd in the Bundesliga by the end of session 1
