Van Bommel sidelined for three days at most

Postby FCBayernNews » Tue Jan 13, 2009 2:00 pm

Shortly after arriving back in Munich on Tuesday morning, Jürgen Klinsmann received the welcome news that an injury sustained by Mark van Bommel in Saudi Arabia is not considered serious. The Bayern captain has nothing worse than bruising to the left knee, and will be fit in good time for the Bundesliga and DFB Cup restart in two weeks.

Van Bommel twisted the knee after half-an-hour of Monday's 3-1 friendly victory over Al Wheda in Jeddah. "He did the right thing and signalled for us to take him off," Klinsmann reported.

Relief for Van Bommel

Immediately after the squad's return to Munich, the player reported to Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt for an MRI scan on the affected knee, revealing the minor nature of the injury. Van Bommel has been ordered off training for two to three days. The Dutchman, who cut a highly pensive figure after Monday's match, was clearly relieved at the news. "I've been lucky," read his brief but meaningful text message to fcbayern.de.

In other injury developments, there was positive news regarding Toni Kroos on Tuesday. The FCB youngster, who returned from his Christmas vacation nursing sprained ankle ligaments, has been cleared to start jogging this week.
