Unstoppable Ribéry in form of his life

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Aug 31, 2013 2:00 pm

On this occasion, the cup spent the night on its own, in stark contrast to the events of three months ago, when Franck Ribéry and his wife shared their bed with the Champions League trophy. This time, after the thrilling Super Cup triumph in Prague, there was simply no space in the France star’s hotel room or indeed his pockets, as the awards for Best Player in Europe and the Super Cup Man of the Match were already in his possession. A haul of three trophies in two days is no mean achievement. “I'm so happy, it feels really fantastic, amazing," a beaming Ribery declared, “I'm totally in love with FC Bayern. This is my home and my family."

The gifted Frenchman no longer has anything to prove. However, his display in Prague on Friday evening provided yet more confirmation that the European footballer of the year is basically unstoppable at the present time. The iced the proverbial cake with a superbly struck goal after 47 minutes and coolly put away his penalty in the shootout. “He's shown us once again why he’s the best player in Europe. I'm proud to be his coach," enthused Pep Guardiola.

The compliment had in any case been swiftly returned. After scoring the equaliser early in the second half, Ribéry ran practically the length of the field to embrace Guardiola, and dedicated the victory to the coach afterwards. “The pressure isn't easy for Pep," said the player, “we've won, and I'm delighted for him, because he's a really fantastic coach."

Both Guardiola and Ribéry were greeted by euphoric applause at the midnight banquet. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge took the opportunity to congratulate the winger in public for winning the best player in Europe accolade: “That's good for FC Bayern and the Bundesliga," the chairman declared. There were no further trophies and medals for Ribéry at the banquet, but there were warm words from all sides, including from team-mate Xherdan Shaqiri: “It's all about Franck tonight!"
