Toni, Klose and Ribéry hit the goal trail

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:45 pm

Bayern should arguably have already been three goals clear when Energie Cottbus opened the scoring out of the blue last Saturday, but the champions recovered to win the game 4-1, largely thanks to three forwards who between them have scored seven of the club's last eight Bundesliga goals, the potent Toni-Klose-Ribéry combination.

Unstoppable Franck Ribéry
The Frenchman again provided the colourful moments in the match, not least due to his new rose-coloured boots. Ribéry has been in increasingly scintillating form since returning from injury in late September, and set a new club record for the season on Saturday with 127 touches of the ball, beating Philipp Lahm's previous best of 112 against Bochum. Even more importantly, he scored for the sixth game in succession, a sublime twenty-yard free-kick into the top corner to tie the game up at 1-1. "It was a dream effort," Jürgen Klinsmann enthused.testRibéry is now level with Luca Toni on six goals at the top of the FCB scoring chart. He also provided a pinpoint assist against Cottbus. "Since recovering fitness, he's been world-class every time," Klinsmann declared, while German FA Director of Sport Matthias Sammer went so far as to say "he's the best player in the world at the moment."

Goal-hungry Luca Toni
Last term's leading scorer delivered no fewer than 13 shots at the Cottbus goal, beating Klose's previous club best of eight against Bielefeld, and comfortably outdoing the entire Energie side (10). Toni was finally rewarded for his persistence with the goal to round off the scoring on the hour, taking the Italian onto six for the campaign.

Toni has recaptured his nose for goal since recovering from bruised ribs in early autumn. He has scored in the last three games, and now has nine scorer points (6 goals, 3 assists) in ten league outings this term. The 31-year-old says he wants "a few more goals" before the winter break. "I don't like having so many names above mine in the scoring chart, but it just makes me even more determined."testTeam player Miroslav Klose
Miroslav Klose is coming up fast on the rails behind club leading scorers Ribery and Toni. The 30-year-old netted his fifth of the season against Cottbus, opponents the Germany man appears to enjoy facing - he now has eight goals in five home games against Energie. He also continued a fine run which has brought him 12 scorer points (5 goals, 7 assists) in the last 11 competitive fixtures (Bundesliga and Champions League).

"He's vital to the team because he's a provider," Klinsmann said in praise of the striker, who has mined a rich vein of form in recent weeks alongside Ribéry and Toni. The free-scoring threesome are supplying the impetus which Bayern hope will take them top of the standings before the festive season.
