The Lewandowski Show against Wolfsburg

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Mar 09, 2019 10:05 am

Robert Lewandowski needed all five fingers on his hand to show the historical feat he’d achieved on that memorable afternoon in September 2015. The striker had started the game at the Allianz Arena on the bench as Bayern trailed 1-0 to Wolfsburg at half-time on Matchday 6 of the 2015/16 Bundesliga season. Coach Pep Guardiola reacted and brought Lewandowski on for the second half – the Midas touch.

The remarkable striker equalised in the 51st minute, and by the hour mark had turned the game on its head to give Bayern a 5-1 lead thanks to four further goals in the 52nd, 55th, 57th and 60th minute. That five-goal haul in the space of just eight minutes and 59 seconds wrote the Pole’s name in the history books.

The match was also the start of a remarkable record for Lewandowski that has seen him net in his last seven Bundesliga matches against Wolfsburg, bagging 14 in total. Klaus Fischer currently holds the Bundesliga record for such a run, scoring in nine consecutive games against VfB Stuttgart between 1969 and 1974.
