Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Dec 18, 2017 5:35 pm

FC Bayern v Borussia Dortmund - Wednesday night brings the eleventh meeting in the DFB Cup. FCB have only played Hamburg SV and Schalke 04 as often as BVB in the Cup. Bayern went through six times and Dortmund four with Borussia winning the last tie back in April. The two clubs play each other in the DFB Cup for the seventh season in succession. Five of the previous ten Cup ties went into extra-time and three were decided on penalties. fcbayern.com looks back at the last six meetings in the DFB Cup.

26 April 2017, Round of 16: FC Bayern v Borussia Dortmund 2-3

In spite of having more of the game and numerous chances, FC Bayern lost out 3-2 after 90 minutes of top quality football. Dortmund took the lead through Marco Reus before Javi Martinez and Mats Hummels turned the game round in favour the record champions. However, two counter-attacks in the second half led to goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembélé that took Dortmund through to the next round.

21 May 2016, Final: FC Bayern v Borussia Dortmund 4-3 on penalties

Bayern provided an impressive farewell for departing coach Pep Guardiola. The tie was goalless at 90 and 120 minutes but Bayern found the back of the net four times, and Dortmund just three, in the penalty shootout.

28 April 2015, Semi-final: FC Bayern v Dortmund 0-2 on penalties (1-1)

A penalty shootout also decided the previous meeting. Bayern dominated the game for long periods and took the lead with a goal from Robert Lewandowski. There was drama after the equaliser netted by Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Dortmund's Kevin Kampl was sent off in extra time and none of the Bayern players found the target in the shootout on a treacherous surface.

17 May 2014, Final: Dortmund v FC Bayern 0-2 a.e.t.

The two defences initially dominated proceedings at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. A header from Dortmund's Mats Hummels was ruled out. Goals from Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller won the game for Bayern in extra time.

27 February 2013, Quarter-final: FC Bayern v Dortmund 1-0

In a match dominated by tactics, Arjen Robben won the tie with a curler that secured revenge for the defeat in the Final nine months earlier.

12 May 2012, Final: Dortmund v FC Bayern 5-2

A week before the 2012 Champions League Final, goals from Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry were not enough to prevent defeat against the newly crowned German champions. Borussia Dortmund won the double for the first time.
