Rummenigge on Boateng, Vidal and Neuer

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Jul 08, 2011 5:20 pm

There was little sleep for Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Thursday night. The Bayern chairman set off from Munich for Riva del Garda in the early hours of Friday morning, paying a visit to the summer training camp in northern Italy. The 56-year-old arrived at the stadium in Arco just after 10 am, saying how much he appreciated the "wonderful weather" in Trentino compared to rainy Munich.

However, Rummenigge's visit to the training camp was not really prompted by the poor conditions in the Bavarian capital. Instead, the former Germany international and Inter Milan star was present to sign and seal an extension of the partnership between the club and the Trentino region until 2015. "We're very happy with the partnership, and delighted we'll be coming back to this wonderful region regularly as guests," the chairman commented, "a partnership has become a friendship."

Shortly after his arrival at the training camp, Rummenigge patiently took questions from reporters, dealing with two particularly hot topics: Bayern's squad planning for the rest of the summer, and the protest against keeper Manuel Neuer by a tiny group of so-called fans at the 15-0 friendly victory over a Trentino XI last Wednesday.

Discussing the protracted negotiations with Premier League outfit Manchester City regarding centre-back Jerome Boateng, Rummenigge admitted to bafflement: "This is an extraordinary process which I've never experienced before," he said. The English club are asking "for the moon," the chairman reported, and had ceased contact with FCB, "so there's nothing new to report. We'll continue to wait, although naturally we're starting to consider alternatives in case we don't reach a solution with Manchester City."

Chairman's fit of rage

Rummenigge is also adopting a relaxed approach to negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the services of Arturo Vidal. Even without the Chile star, the FCB midfield would be "wonderful", the former striker stated, although he confirmed Munich's continuing interest in signing the defensive specialist. "If we can do it at an affordable price, we will do it."

The chairman admitted he was considerably more agitated by Wednesday's events concerning new signing Neuer. "I was deeply angry," he revealed, after hearing of the protest by a small group of supporters. "I almost had a fit of rage, because I was totally convinced we'd sorted this matter out."

Praise for Neuer

"But the club's patience is now at an end. These people are unwanted, and what they're doing is unwanted," Rummenigge declared, warning that Bayern would shortly take drastic action: "Anyone who's yet to understand that Manuel Neuer is a Bayern Munich player, and must be treated seriously and with the respect due, can no longer be helped, or rather, needs help."

The chairman expressed praise for the way Neuer has coped with the situation. "I must say I'm amazed at how relaxed and composed he is in dealing with this business. All I can say is that he appears to be an exceptionally well-rounded and positive character."
