Rummenigge confirms interest in Ivica Olic

Postby FCBayernNews » Tue Dec 09, 2008 5:15 pm

Bayern could recruit from a Bundesliga rival in their search for new senior players ready for the 2009-10 campaign. The Munich board of directors has named prolific striker Ivica Olic, currently with fifth-placed Hamburger SV, as a potential transfer target in the coming months.

"We've declared our interest. Now we'll have to see how things unfold. Bayern Munich has plenty to lay on the table," declared chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ahead of the Munich club's departure for the midweek Champions League meeting away to Olympique Lyon.

Quoted in the mass-circulation Bild tabloid, Rummenigge explained the thinking behind the club's interest in Olic. "We're convinced that Ivica would be a terrific fit with our front two of Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose. One pleasing aspect to the matter is that he's out of contract soon." Olic can leave Hamburg on a free transfer next summer.

The player's agent Gordon Stipic said on Tuesday he would meet his client during the winter break to discuss what the future might hold for the 29-year-old Croatia international, scorer of 10 goals in 62 appearances for his country. Bayern officially open the second half of the Bundesliga season with a visit to Hamburg on 30 January.
