Ribéry's ankle immobilised

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Jun 12, 2015 2:50 pm

The conservative therapy pursued to date in the case of Franck Ribéry has unfortunately not led to the desired results. After a further medical examination by Prof. Dr. Walther, the player's right ankle has now been immobilised.

Sporting director Matthias Sammer commented: "We will be fully supporting Franck in every aspect of the healing process and hope he will soon be back on the field of play.“

Sounds mysterious... Anyone with any medical knowledge that can specify if 'immobilised' has any particular technical meaning or does it just mean that he cannot move it at all?

It means a plaster cast or a locking brace wrapped around his ankle to prohibit any movement.
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?

That's it then. I am inclined to assume that we won't be seeing Ribery on a football field any more :(

Terrible news. Hope we'll see him back on the field one day.

Have to wonder how much this has to do with the MW case. From the wording they clearly feel that his treatment was useless (and Ribery did suffer frequent injuries).

And I don't see him coming back .. Even it the doctors said he won't be able to play again, it wouldn't make sense from an economic point of view for Sammer to make it known.
Curious to know if the MW case has anything to do with it

Can't help but feel pessimistic about his chances of regaining a starting spot in the team again, or even a spot on the bench :(

I'd say that if it already wasn't before, a left winger should be the highest summer priority now, no question. Goetze isn't effective enough in that role, and Bernat isn't experienced and lacks enough attacking contribution for a winger.

The problem is there is no one ideal on the market, Depay had been snapped up, Griezmann is fantastically expensive by all accounts, di Maria would be overpriced and unlikely to be much better than Goetze, etc...

Hazard and Reus would be the best two... good luck getting either.

I have a hunch rumours about MW hiding the severity of Ribery's injury might have prompted his dismissal before the end of the season. Wasn't the injury supposed to be minor and everyone was anticipating his early return?

The initial injury was a minor thing. Sammer says it's a periostitis, so chances are that after the knock he took an inflamation developed. Actually kicker reported that early in the process. Rumours that there's something entirely different behind it or that there was an initial misdiagnosis seem to be just rumours.

It's not a severe injury but it can take a long time, and there's a high risk for setbacks, especially if training is resumed too early.

On the MW case: They weren't dismissed, they resigned. When the physio Freddy Binder was dismissed a few days ago, there were reports that it was actually the physios who were accused by Kalle of being responsible for the Porto defeat - and as a result the MW staff resigned.
