Ribery retires from international football

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Aug 13, 2014 10:35 pm

Franck Ribéry has followed the lead set by Philipp Lahm and announced the end of his international career. The 31-year-old will no longer go in search of goals and glory for France, he said on Wednesday evening via kicker magazine. “I’m stopping. I’ve realised the moment has arrived,” the Bayern star said, explaining that he wants to spend more time with his family and devote all his energies to FC Bayern. “It’s time to hand over to all the fantastic young players in the national team,” said Ribéry, who earned his maiden cap shortly before the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He made a total of 81 appearances for his country, scoring 16 goals.

Neuer in wax

A wax effigy of Manuel Neuer is set to be displayed in Berlin. “He’s the most requested of our World Cup heroes and will represent he entire team who won the World Cup,” Madame Tussauds Berlin General Manager Sandra Schmalzried on Wednesday. In the course of the next few weeks, three modelling experts will take a total of 226 measurements and more than 150 photos of Neuer. Up to 20 artists will then work on the figure in London for up to four months. The world’s best keeper will be in good company in Berlin, as the likes of Oliver Kahn are already on display.

Bundesliga coaches regard FCB as favourites

The head coaches of the 18 Bundesliga clubs have overwhelmingly declared double winners Bayern as favourites to win the 52nd season of the German top flight. In a survey conducted by news agency dpa, coach Pep Guardiola’s team were named favourites 14 times. Two coaches, Markus Gisdol of 1899 Hoffenheim and André Breitenreiter of newcomers SC Paderborn, think Borussia Dortmund can topple the Reds. Guardiola himself said it will be a “huge challenge” to prevail against BVB.
