Reaction to Borussia Dortmund v Bayern

Sunday’s goalless draw away to Borussia Dortmund was the proverbial game of two halves, with Bayern dominating the first period but the home side in control after the interval. Ottmar Hitzfeld described himself as “satisfied,” especially in the light of the energy-sapping battle in Belgrade just three days earlier. “A draw in Dortmund is never a bad result, especially as we were so tired. Compliments to my players,” Hitzfeld summarised.

Reaction to Borussia Dortmund v Bayern:

Ottmar Hitzfeld: “A draw in Dortmund is never a bad result, especially as we were so tired. The game in Belgrade cost us an incredible amount of energy, so we were only operating at about 70 percent of our potential. You’ll always come under pressure in that situation, so we’re very happy with the point. Compliments to my players, I’m very impressed by the way they ran themselves into the ground in Belgrade and then matched Dortmund this afternoon. We should have taken the lead in the first half, or at least right at the start of the second half, but by the end we have to be grateful that Dortmund failed to put away two or three excellent chances.“

Miroslav Klose: “The vital thing in Dortmund is keeping a clean sheet. You have days when you have to settle for a point.“

Thomas Doll (BVB coach): “When you look at the second half, it’s a game we should have won. We had gilt-edged chances, so I’m a little angry right now. We didn’t concentrate hard enough at the decisive moments, but it’s given us something to build on.“
