Rafinha extends stay with Bayern through 2017

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:27 pm

After tying up long-term deals with David Alaba and Jérôme Boateng in recent weeks, FC Bayern have now agreed a contract extension until 2017 with Brazilian full-back Rafinha. The former Schalke player, who joined the treble winners in 2011 from Genoa, inked a new contract at the Bavarians’ team hotel in Marrakech on Wednesday. “It’s very important for me, my career and my family that I have the chance to continue working at one of the best clubs in the world. I’m very proud,” the 28-year-old informed FCB.tv shortly after signing the new contract.

FCB finance director Jan-Christian Dreesen, responsible along with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, board member for sport Matthias Sammer and legal representative Michael Gerlinger for the final negotiations with the player and his agent, said he was very pleased with the agreement. “Rafinha is not only an excellent footballer, but has always contributed a lot to a great dressing room atmosphere. Working under Pep Guardiola has given him another boost and he’s doing a terrific job.“

Rafinha has four assists to his name in 25 appearances for FCB this season. The full-back, who has not written off his chances of appearing for Brazil at his home World Cup next summer, is now aiming to help Munich claim the Club World Cup on Saturday. “Making this final is a dream come true. We have to play well and win it whatever it takes,” Rafinha declared.
