Possible DFB Cup semi-final opponents for FC Bayern

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Mar 05, 2020 2:55 pm

FC Bayern overcame the quarter-final hurdle in the DFB Cup with flying colours, beating FC Schalke 1-0. That means the holders are a step nearer to another final. Who the Reds will face in the semi-finals will be revealed on Sunday. The draw for the last four will be broadcast live from 18.00 CET on the ARD Sportschau TV show. Fans and management alike can hardly wait as fcbayern.com presents the possible opponents.

Possible semi-final opponents for FC Bayern:

Bundesliga:

Bayer 04 Leverkusen: The Werkself came back from a goal down to beat Union Berlin 3-1 in the quarter-finals. This will be the first semi-final appearance for Leverkusen since 2017/18. The Rhinelanders lost 6-2 to FC Bayern back then. The route to the last four saw Bayer knock out Union plus Alemannia Aachen (4-1), SC Paderborn (1-0) and VfB Stuttgart (2-1).

Karim Bellarabi's equaliser at 1-1 on 72 minutes turned the game round for Leverkusen.

Eintracht Frankfurt: The team from Hesse beat Werder Bremen 2-0 in the quarter-finals. Frankfurt are now in the semi-finals for the third time in the last four years. In the previous rounds, the 2018 winners overcame Waldhof Mannheim (5-3), FC St Pauli (2-1) and last season's finalists RB Leipzig (3-1).

After Daichi Kamada made it 2-0 (60'), Frankfurt shut up shop and deservedly progressed to the semi-finals.

Regional League:

1. FC Saarbrücken: In the long history of the DFB Cup, the Blues and Blacks are the first fourth division team to qualify for the last four. The league leaders of the Regional League South West beat Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf in the quarter-finals 8-7 on penalties. The team coached by Lukas Kwasniok also knocked out Jahn Regensburg (3-2), FC Köln (3-2) and Karlsruher SC (5-3 on penalties). As the lower league club, FCS will definitely be at home.

Cup hero! Saarbrücken's keeper Daniel Batz saved four penalties in the shootout with Fortuna Düsseldorf to put his team in the semi-finals.

The result of the draw and further information on the cup semi-finals will be available at fcbayern.com on Sunday. The next round will be played on 21 and 22 April 2020.

Joshua Kimmich scored the winner against Schalke and was rightly named Man of the Match:

I have a cousin who lives about 20 km north of Saarbrucken (sorry no umlaut on my keyboard) and might consider coming across the pond if he can tickets.
Stay well brothers and sisters in this time of world peril.
No matter who or where you are, peace be with you.

Dude... You should rather ask one of us here for tickets in Munich - you know there would be WAY less tickets right?

Also, home game, rest don’t matter... Playing the Pillendreher in Berlin sounds interesting though...

Cheaper to fly to Frankfurt and drive, plus get to stay with cousin. Oh well.
