Patient Gomez fired up for Germany outing

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:20 pm

In 2013, Mario Gomez has played six minutes against Fürth, three against Stuttgart, and 15 against Mainz. The issue for last season's top marksman is that Mario Mandzukic is scoring at will, but it is no problem at all, Gomez declared at a German FA (DFB) press conference on Monday. "I take a very realistic view: I'm back from a four-month injury lay-off and the team is in outstanding form. What's the coach supposed to do?" he said.

Mario G is a model of calm patience, especially as the second half of the season is barely underway and there are plenty of games to go. "I know what I can contribute, I know I'll still be needed, and I know I'm important to the team," the 27-year-old continued. Just like everyone at Bayern, his only target this season is to win the Bundesliga. "It doesn't really matter whether I play five or 90 minutes," Gomez insisted, "I want to help us achieve our goal. I'll be dammed if I'm going to ruin our fantastic streak."

Backed by Bierhoff

When Germany play France in Paris on Wednesday, Gomez is highly likely to make the starting line-up. "And I'm totally looking forward to it," said the striker, who most recently turned out for his national team in the Euro 2012 semi-final at the end of June last year. "I've been away a very long time," he reflected, "so I'll do my best to have a good game."

Oliver Bierhoff has no doubt Gomez will deliver. "There's no question as to his quality. I'm looking forward to watching him play," said the DFB team manager. The player himself has no concerns over his relative lack of match practice: "I'm up to speed," he said. He is keen to continue proving that in Munich in the weeks ahead, "because I feel really great at Bayern!"

Respect. =D>

I wish Jupp utilises him for the complete 2nd half in next match or may be give him a start.
He deserves a proper chance.

Yeah, Gomez is a proper team player. He was patient in 2009-10 (in addition to his massive price tag that made the situation more difficult) and it paid off in the long run.
