'No-one's happy with our league position'

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Nov 22, 2009 8:15 pm

Bayern's 1-1 draw with Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, Munich's third league stalemate in a row, means Louis van Gaal's men have gone a month without winning and have failed to make inroads into the six-point gap to the top of the standings. "We're unhappy, because none of us likes the situation in the league table," commented FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge afterwards.

Reaction to Bayern v Leverkusen

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "We're unhappy, because none of us likes the situation in the league table. The fans don't like it, the coach doesn't like it, the team doesn't like it, and neither do we, naturally enough. We need a big win to relieve the pressure, but we've missed out today. It was a very good game from both teams in the first half, but results are what matters at the end of the day and unfortunately, we've again failed to win. We need to work with the team and get things moving in a positive direction again. We'll do that and hope it works out."

Louis van Gaal: "We wanted three points today, because that would have taken us to within three points of the top. But we've not been able to do it. We lacked confidence in the first half, we weren't well organised, and we rode our luck. We created a lot more pressure after half-time and we could have scored. But I've been saying this same thing for weeks. It's a real shame we didn't manage to score."

Bastian Schweinsteiger: "Obviously we were looking for the three points, especially given where we are in the table. We're disappointed not to have won, although overall, you have to accept the draw was the right result. Leverkusen didn't hold back, they didn't change their system, they played their football and had chances - but then again, so did we."

Jupp Heynckes: "We wanted to win, despite our poor record in Munich. I think we were excellent in the first half, but we lacked precision at the end of our promising attacking moves. The way we bounced back from conceding the early goal was very positive, and it was due to the team believing in themselves. We have to be satisfied with a point, although I'm regretting the missed chances in the first half."

Toni Kroos: "We were the better team in the first half, we kept it very tight at the back, we attacked well and created a few chances. Unfortunately, we failed to score a second goal. We faded in the second half, so we can more than live with the point. You can see Bayern aren't on peak form."
