Nerlinger: We'll need to keep our cool

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri May 11, 2012 4:30 pm

Christian Nerlinger is clearly bursting with cup excitement, and can hardly wait for the action to start. The director of sport was the first man to check in at Munich airport on Friday morning, more than an hour before the bulk of the players. Happily for fcbayern.de, that meant the former midfielder had time for a quick chat prior to take-off. Nerlinger was confident, but called for cool heads in the heat of battle.

Interview: Christian Nerlinger

fcbayern.de: Christian Nerlinger, the Bayern party is heading for Berlin. Are you tense?
Christian Nerlinger: As you'd expect, I do sense a certain tension, but it's more a case of eager anticipation, because the cup final is a real highlight. It's worth making the trip for the special atmosphere in Berlin alone.

What's your impression of the players in recent days?
The players are very aware of what's at stake. And they also know they've already overcome tough challenges in the cup run this season, away to Gladbach and to Stuttgart for example. I feel they're totally focused and extremely motivated for the final. They're all fired up.

What kind of match are you expecting between the teams who came first and second in the Bundesliga?
There's always a lot of emotion surrounding a final like this, so we'll need to keep our cool. Dortmund are well organised and you only ever get a few chances against them. We'll have to wait patiently for these chances.

Bayern have lost their last four meetings with Dortmund...
If you think back to how those games went, it was always very tight. Dortmund simply had that little bit of luck you need. However, I believe our team has total confidence now after the victory in Madrid.

If everything goes according to plan, how will you celebrate winning the DFB Cup, just a week ahead of the Champions League final?
Before the match, I don't want to talk about celebrating afterwards. That's the least of our problems. We're totally focused on the game.
