Munich all set for title celebrations

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri May 10, 2013 4:50 pm

From Franz Beckenbauer to Oliver Kahn, some 22 FCB legends will be present, together with typically Bavarian show acts, 71,000 fans, the new home shirt and the championship shield, all components of a major title party in Munich. "FC Bayern wird zum FC Feiern," quipped Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in rhyming style: FC Bayern will become FC Party, following Saturday's Bundesliga meeting with FC Augsburg (Live in English from 3.30 pm CET on Web radio).

The shield will be presented at around 5.30 pm, ushering in the kind of celebrations that have been missing in the Bavarian capital since mid-2010. Gallons of perfectly good Weissbier will be showered over anyone within range, before the stars set off by motorcade to the city centre Marienplatz and the gathering of the team, the coaching staff and the management team on the Town Hall balcony. The players will spend the evening and doubtless the early hours of the morning at a private party.

"The team have shown great discipline and held back for the whole season, so they can party now. That's something we have to let the lads do," commented Rummenigge. Coach Jupp Heynckes was not setting a curfew either: "The players deserve to celebrate and be celebrated." However, the boss added, every man has the Champions League and DFB Cup finals in his head, "so the brakes will automatically be on. I'm utterly convinced everyone knows how far he can go."

Aiming to win, even now

"We'll try and enjoy it. We've reached one of our targets, but obviously we have even bigger goals ahead of us," said David Alaba. And before the champagne corks pop on Saturday, there is the matter of the 33rd Bundesliga fixture, in which Munich have no intention of doing relegation-threatened neighbours Augsburg any favours. "Naturally, we intend to win tomorrow's match," confirmed Heynckes on Friday.

It would be FCB's 600th home win in the Bundesliga and therefore an excellent fit with the party programme. Heynckes would welcome a 15th victory in 16 league matches this calendar year for another reason, namely the upcoming finals. "We have to maintain our rhythm, and endure real competitive tests if we're to stay in form," said the league's oldest title-winning coach. However, after closely observing training this week, he is convinced "no-one will shirk."

That is just as well, because Heynckes feels the 16th-placed visitors have "a genuine chance of saving their skins." Augsburg will be utterly determined to take something from the match, as coach Markus Weinzierl confirmed: "We're not going to Munich just to form a guard of honour. We need points, and we want to come through as a team, even against the champions. We'll have to defend with plenty of heart and courage."

Dante set to return

However, it is in defence where Augsburg have acute selection problems. Centre backs Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker and Sebastian Langkamp are out with suspension and injury respectively, with workhorse Paul Verhaegh rated doubtful (neck). For Bayern, Jerome Boateng and Rafinha serve out bans, while Toni Kroos and Holger Badstuber remain on the injury list. By contrast, Dante has finally shaken off the flu and will play, Heynckes confirmed.

"The team on Saturday could be identical with the team I send out for the Champions League final," announced the FCB boss, another indication that the champions are chasing all three points in Munich. And that would be the perfect starting point for the celebrations, noted Mario Mandzukic: "We want a good atmosphere, but that will only be the case if we win."
