Müller scores in clash with Thiago

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Mar 24, 2018 10:30 am

Germany and Spain drew 1-1 in front of a 50,653 capacity crowd in Düsseldorf on Friday evening in both nations' first international friendly of the World Cup year. The visitors took a sixth-minute lead through Rodrigo Moreno, but Thomas Müller levelled with a sweetly-struck 25-yard shot 35 minutes into the contest. Apart from the scorer, Mats Hummels, Jérôme Boateng and Joshua Kimmich played in the showdown with the 2010 world champions, who themselves featured Thiago in their starting line-up.

In a quality clash between two technically and tacically well-drilled teams, all the Bayern men staked strong claims for places at the World Cup in Russia. Müller, who even took the armband after Sami Khedira was forced off injured in the 53rd minute and captained the side until he too was subbed off with ten minutes to play, contributed plenty of attacking ideas. Hummels was tyically solid at the back and was also unlucky to see a 65th-minute header glance away to safety off the crossbar. Thiago covered plenty of ground for the Spaniards and always went looking for the ball until he too departed the fray after 82 minutes.

Niklas Süle and Sandro Wagner were unused substitues, with Sebastian Rudy not in the squad as he remained in Munich for the birth of his son David.
