Miro, Franck and Rense top midpoint stats

Postby FCBayernNews » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:45 am

Twenty-three FCB stars have contested 25 matches in three competitions so far this term, generating the usual raft of statistics to count and compare. Who has scored the most goals? Who has provided the most assists? And who has played the most minutes? has compiled a brief statistical overview of the first half of the 2008-9 campaign from the German champions' point of view.

Miroslav Klose leads the way so far this term with 13 goals. The Germany international is followed by Luca Toni (10), with Franck Ribéry and Tim Borowski (both on 7) sharing third spot. Taking each competition in turn, Klose has been the most prolific player in the Champions League (5) and the DFB Cup (2), while Toni is FCB's top Bundesliga scorer with nine goals. A calculation of the stars' goal-per-game average gives the following ranking: Klose was the most dangerous marksman with 0.54 goals per appearance, closely followed by Toni (0.53), with Ribéry in third (0.41).

Ribéry missed the first seven matches of the season with injury, but the Frenchman still tops the chart for assists. Ribéry has laid on nine goals for his team-mates to claim first place in the club ranking at the halfway mark. Franck is followed by Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger (8 each) and Zé Roberto (7). In the Champions League, Ribéry is in a class of his own with five assists, but Schweinsteiger has turned provider more often in the Bundesliga (7).

Scorer points
The sum of a player's goals and assists is referred to as his scorer points. Klose is the undisputed number one in this category with 21, followed by Ribéry (16), Toni (15) and Schweinsteiger (12). In statistical terms, Klose has been involved in 0.88 goals per appearance, a shade ahead of strike partner Toni (0.79), but behind Ribéry, who chalked up 0.94 scorer points per game.testAppearances
Keeper Michael Rensing is the only man to have appeared in all 25 matches in the first half of the campaign. Among the outfield players, Klose tops the list with 24, followed by Lucio and Schweinsteiger on 23 apiece. In terms of completing the full 90 minutes, Rensing again leads on 25. The keeper is followed in the ranking by defensive specialists Lucio (22), Mark van Bommel (19), Martin Demichelis and Philipp Lahm (18 each). Club captain Van Bommel is also the only player apart from Rensing who was on the field at the start and end of every game he played.

Minutes played
Delving more deeply into the appearance statistics, Rensing is again head and shoulders above the rest in terms of minutes on the field. The Bayern number one was in action for all of the 2,250 minutes played in the 25 matches so far. Lucio completed some 200 minutes fewer (2,058), followed by Klose (1,927) and Schweinsteiger (1,737).

Tim Borowski is the league's top super sub with four goals after coming on as a replacement, but he also tops the sub stats at FCB. The midfielder entered the fray from the subs' bench on no fewer than 15 occasions. The former Bremen man is followed by Andreas Ottl and Lukas Podolski on 10 each, and José Ernesto Sosa on seven.
