The year 2013 was outstandingly successful for Bayern. The Reds sealed the fastest-ever Bundesliga title, finally won the Champions League again, completed the treble with a cup victory in Berlin, claimed the UEFA Super Cup and crowned the lot at the end of the year with the Club World Cup. There has never been a more successful 12 months in Munich’s 113-year history, so is delighted to review the many milestones in a 2013 packed with trophies and triumphs.

16 January: It is only the midpoint of the season, but Germany’s biggest club are already looking to the future. FC Bayern announce the hiring of Pep Guardiola as head coach for the 2013/14 campaign.

27 February: On the club’s 113th birthday Bayern defeat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the DFB Cup semi-final.

13 March: Heynckes’ men lose the Champions League last sixteen return 2-0 at home to Arsenal, but progress to the last eight thanks to a thrilling 3-1 victory in the first meeting in London. FCB now face Juventus in the quarters.

6 April: FC Bayern secure the Bundesliga title earlier than any other champions in the 50-year history of the league! A 1-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt hands the title to Munich for the 23rd time with just 28 of the 34 league fixtures played.

10 April: Just a few days later FCB celebrate reaching the last four in Europe’s elite club competition. The Bavarians travel to Turin and defeat Juventus 2-0, the same score as in the first leg in Munich.

16 April: The Reds are on a roll: VfL Wolfsburg are swept aside 6-1 in the DFB Cup semi-final.

1 May: Jaws drop and headlines scream as Bayern storm into the Champions League final with a crushing victory over Barcelona! After a stunning 4-0 triumph in Munich, the Reds travel to Camp Nou and record an equally impressive 3-0 victory.

25 May: The Big Cup is back in Munich! Bayern defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in a high-quality Champions League final at Wembley. After previous European Cup/Champions League triumphs in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 2001, Munich are Kings of Europe for the fifth time.

1 June: Bayern win the DFB Cup for the 16th time and complete a historic treble. The Bavarians defeat VfB Stuttgart 3-2 in the cup final at Berlin Olympic Stadium.

4 June: Just a few days guiding Bayern to the treble, Jupp Heynckes calls time on an illustrious and magnificent career. He departs at the absolute pinnacle, bqueathing Guardiola an outstanding team.

24 June: Pep Guardiola is unveiled at a packed press conference. Speaking surprisingly good German, the Catalan introduces himself to media representatives from around the globe.

28 July: Bastian Schweinsteiger is named German Footballer of the Year. The FCB vice-captain will be presented with his trophy on 9 August prior to the Bundesliga restart fixture.

29 August: Franck Ribéry is named UEFA Best Player in Europe for 2013! The Frenchman beats off Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to top the poll.

30 August: FCB seal their fourth trophy of 2013! The Champions League winners defeat Europa League holders Chelsea 5-4 on penalties in Prague following a dramatic 2-2 draw in normal and extra time.

13 November: The treble winners yet again announce record financial results at a well-attended Annual General Meeting. The club posts turnover of €432.8 million, breaking the €400 million barrier for the first time.

10 December: Bayern lose their final Champions League group stage fixture 3-2 at home to Manchester City – it will prove the last of only three defeats in the year – but still come top of Group D. Just like last season, Bayern are drawn to face Arsenal in the first knockout round.

21 December: The crowning glory! Exactly 37 years to the day since first winning the Intercontinental Cup, Bayern’s first attempt at the FIFA Club World Cup ends with the Reds claiming the fifth trophy of an outstanding year, as Guardiola’s men defeat Raja Casablanca 2-0. The world club champions now head into a well-deserved winter break before reporting for mid-season training on 5 January 2014.
