Magic Munich bask in late-night revelry

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun May 12, 2013 3:10 pm

It was the venue for Uli Hoeneß's 60th birthday party, and it hosted the banquet after the devastating defeat in the Champions League final of 19 May last year. The mood at the Postpalast in central Munich for those two events could not have been more contrasting, but it was back to its upbeat best when Bayern returned to the stunning location on Saturday night for a party through to the wee small hours.

"I'll admit I've fallen a bit in love with this team. Bayern in 2012/13 has been a summer, autumn, spring and winter fairytale all in one. I'm so proud," declared Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in his speech to the team and 500 invited guests at the club's private title party.

The stars and the audience began arriving at the Postpalast at around 10.30 pm to continue the festivities which began with the late afternoon handover of the championship shield at the Allianz Arena. "The lads should enjoy the evening," said Jupp Heynckes. And they did! A series of stage acts playing against a championship-themed design and including pop star Marlon Roudette, entertained the company from around 1 am, with Bastian Schweinsteiger sitting in on drums, Rafinha on percussion, and Mario Gomez and Manuel Neuer on vocals.

It was clear that the end of a two-year trophy drought had lifted a huge weight from the entire club, although the brakes were not entirely taken off the party in the light of the Champions League appointment with Dortmund and the domestic cup final against Stuttgart. "The games in London and Berlin are a huge chance to make history. I believe the team is capable of having it all this season," commented Rummenigge.

The chairman's speech lasted some 30 minutes, and was frequently interrupted by applause, especially when he praised coach Jupp Heynckes. "Regardless of what happens at this club and in the Bayern family, your place is secure for ever," said Rummenigge, "regardless of what it is you want, the door will always be open." Heynckes was visibly moved, and the players backed the chairman with loud cries of approval.

Rummenigge was unstinting in his praise for the team: "We've never had a Bayern team with such solid, serious and disciplined character. Basically, this team has provided us with magic moments all season long. At some point, when the footballing history books are up for rewriting, these lads and this coach will have a chapter of their own."

Records have tumbled throughout the campaign, but the club now intends to crown an already stunning season. "We haven't reached the end yet," noted Lahm, "we've come very close in the past, but now we want the thing at last." Naturally, he was talking about the Champions League trophy, the winning of which was supposed to be the centrepiece of last year's gathering at the Postpalast.

Looking forward to next time

As everyone knows, it was not to be, but the negative experience had pulled the club even closer together, suggested Rummenigge: "Viewed from today, maybe it was good we all went through it together." Instead of self-pity and lamentation, the club had sourced new resolve and energy from adversity. The plan now is to remedy last term's omission, and set out on another night of celebration in just a few weeks' time.

Great! Now send those bastards back on the training field. We have some unfinished business to do.

IT IS ON!
