Long lay-off for cruciate victim Badstuber

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Dec 01, 2012 9:00 pm

Bayern have been hit by a new injury blow after Holger Badstuber ruptured a cruciate ligament in his right knee during Saturday evening's home meeting with Borussia Dortmund. The Germany defender is likely to be out of action for the next six months.

With 35 minutes played, the centre-back twisted his knee awkwardly in an accidental collision with Javi Martinez and Dortmund's Mario Götze, and was carried off on a stretcher two minutes later. The pain clearly etched on the player's face pointed to the seriousness of the injury, which was confirmed a short time afterwards after an initial examination in the dressing room.

Badstuber made a comeback from a torn muscle just 11 days ago, but will now be sidelined for months with the much more problematic ligament damage. The club's injury roster currently comprises Arjen Robben (sprain), Luiz Gustavo (groin surgery), Emre Can (ligaments) and backup keeper Lukas Raeder (cruciate).
