Light training for Schweinsteiger

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon May 12, 2014 5:10 pm

Bastian Schweinsteiger is a minor doubt to face Borussia Dortmund in Saturday’s cup final at Berlin Olympiastadion. The FCB vice captain underwent an MRI scan on Monday at Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt’s practice and has been diagnosed with an inflammation around the kneecap. The midfielder has been put on an individually tailored programme of light training for the next few days. Depending on how the injury reacts, the plan is to review the player’s training burden on a day-to-day basis.

Hojbjerg in senior Denmark squad

Bayern’s 18-year-old midfield hopeful Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has received a maiden call-up to the senior Denmark squad from national coach Morten Olsen. Hojbjerg has been named in a 23-strong squad for friendlies on 22 and 28 May against Hungary and Sweden. It is a great honour for the youngster but creates a slight problem for the club as Hojbjerg is now very unlikely to feature for FC Bayern II in the play-offs for promotion to the national third division.

Florian Meyer in charge on Saturday

Florian Meyer has been appointed to referee Saturday’s DFB Cup final between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund at Berlin Olympiastadion, the German FA (DFB) announced on Monday. The 45-year-old from Burgdorf took charge of the final in 2005 when Bayern beat Schalke 2–1. “For many years now Florian Meyer has been one of Germany’s best referees both at home and in international matches,” commented DFB referees’ committee chairman Herbert Fandel. Meyer’s assistants are Frank Willenborg and Christoph Bornhorst, with Christian Dingert as the fourth official.

Line-up for FCB Youth Cup complete

The FC Bayern Youth Cup, the international youth football tournament organised by FC Bayern and the club’s partners with support from the Bundesliga, is approaching this year’s climax. Recent eliminators in Germany and Italy, staged with the support of HypoVereinsbank and Trentino, completed the line-up of all the players selected to represent their countries at the FC Bayern Youth Cup Final Week in Munich from 19 to 22 May. The week features training sessions with FC Bayern youth coaches and sightseeing at the Allianz Arena and in Munich, before the teams contest the grand final on 22 May.
