Lewandowski's incredible 15 minutes in Belgrade

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Nov 27, 2019 12:50 am

Robert Lewandowski is in the form of his life. The 31-year-old crowned his recent form in FC Bayern's 6-0 Champions League victory away to Red Star Belgrade. The striker scored four goals in 14 minutes and 32 seconds, a new record in Europe's elite club competition!

"We turned in an outstanding display, we were strong in defence and had a lot of chances up front. The main thing is that we had fun. We want to stick to our plan and we always want to win, no matter where we play," Lewandowski said after the final whistle. Bayern coach Hansi Flick explained why the striker is in top form: "Lewy is incredibly professional, he turns in extra shifts again and again. He's performing at a very high level at the moment and just scores."

Lewandowski was allowed to keep the ball as a reward for his outstanding performance.

Lewandowski started his heroics after 52 minutes, when he converted a penalty. Seven minutes later he tapped home a Tolisso header, making it 3-0. In the 64th minute he headed past keeper Milan Borjan following a Pavard cross, and three minutes later he rounded off his second four-goal haul in the Champions League (the first came in April 2013, when he scored four for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid).

Lewandowski scored his goals number seven to ten in this year's Champions League campaign, topping the scorer rankings. His tally of ten goals after five matches in Europe's premier club competition is unparalleled. The striker now boasts 46 goals for Bayern in the Champions League, Bayern's most prolific scorer in the competition. Besides, he scored his competitive goals number 215 to 218 for Munich, surpassing Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Only Gerd Müller on 517 boasts more competitive goals for Bayern since the club's promotion to the Bundesliga.
