Lewandowski overtakes van Nistelrooy

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Oct 23, 2019 12:35 am

The goals just keep on coming! Robert Lewandowski maintained his free-scoring form in Bayern’s Champions League victory away to Olympiacos on Tuesday. The 31-year-old laid the foundations for a hard-fought 3-2 victory with a double strike, extending his impressive goalscoring streak. The Pole is up to a remarkable 18 goals in 13 games for FCB this season – comfortably the best goalscoring record of any player in Europe's top five leagues.

"I always try to do my best and help my team. Every single situation on the pitch can be important and make the difference between winning and losing. That's why I want to stay focused and calm and do my job," Lewandowski commented. With his two goals on Tuesday evening, the Polish international also moved up the list of top scorers in Europe’s elite club competition. With 58 goals, Lewandowski now ranks fifth ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy (56).

In addition, it was the twelfth game in a row featuring a Lewy goal for Bayern. Carsten Jancker last achieved the feat 19 years ago. Only Gerd Müller in 1969/70 (15 games) managed a longer run in a Munich jersey since the club were promoted to the Bundesliga in 1965.
