Kovač: Not what we expect of ourselves

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:20 pm

Bayern fell 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The Reds were reduced to ten men when Jérôme Boateng saw a red card after eight minutes, "and everything we had planned was thrown into disarray," coach Niko Kovač remarked after the final whistle. But even with a man less, the margin of defeat was way  too big: "We still can't concede five goals," declared Manuel Neuer. Kovač said: "Our performance today is not what we expect of ourselves."

Reaction to Frankfurt v Bayern

Niko Kovač: "We started well, but everything we had planned was thrown into disarray after eight minutes. It's tough to play more than 80 minutes with a man down here in Frankfurt. I think we did well in the first half despite going two goals down. We pulled one back and were in control. Then we conceded the third four minutes after half-time. Of course we mustn't lose 5-1 here. Our performance today is not what we expect of ourselves. We didn't play well in the second half."

Manuel Neuer: "We were a man down after ten minutes, which didn't exactly make it easier. But we still can't concede five goals. We had chances we didn't take. We weren't determined enough to clear situations in defence. We must think, analyse and the do better."

Adi Hütter (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): "Nobody expected that. We said we can hurt Bayern at the right moment. The red card for Jérôme Boateng was the key to victory. Our third goal was the gateway to winning 5-1. It came in a period when they had a few good chances. It was an outstanding victory of course."

Djibril Sow (Eintracht Frankfurt): "Everything went perfectly today. The red card played into our cards of course. We can up the pressure at home, and towards the end we just displayed our qualities. We knew we can beat any opponents, but you need a near-perfect day against Bayern, and that was the case today."
