Bayern have postponed a decision on whether to appeal against the one-match suspension imposed by UEFA on captain Oliver Kahn. The ban would mean the former World Goalkeeper of the Year missing the Bavarians' Champions League quarter-final first leg away to AC Milan.

The board of directors and the club captain have agreed to await the European governing body's explanation of the verdict in writing, before taking legal advice on the subject. A decision on how and whether to pursue the matter will now be taken on Monday.

Ban shocks club and player

On Thursday evening, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee found Kahn guilty of "improper conduct" at the post-match doping control after the Champions League Round of 16 return leg against Real Madrid in Munich on 7 March.

The club had hoped their veteran keeper would be treated leniently, but the Committee's shock verdict was a ban for one club competition match, and a 20,000 Swiss franc fine.

Fellow Bayern man Lucio, who was also accused of "breaching basic rules of good conduct" at the same doping control, escaped a ban but was ordered to pay a 10,000 Swiss franc fine.
